University Owned Housing

What are the chances of getting a place in San Ynez as a current freshman moving out of the dorms? I have a group of four people assembled, does this help my chances?

And if we don't get accepted to the San Ynez apartments, how the heck are we supposed to find housing come March when the decisions are sent out? Are we basically screwed?

HELP!

Well its done by a lottery process and they have 700 spots open for university owned apartments for continuing students.

Really all you and your friends have to be randomly picked. I heard that really no one is left behind when applying for housing through the school.

But if the off chance you don’t get in, there are always places offering apartments, really you have nothing to worry about.

Right now Santa Ynez is pretty much designated for transfer students. I haven’t heard of anyone who wasn’t a transfer student living there this year. Good luck with your housing! =)

I didn’t know that. It might have something to do with the fact that there isn’t much space (if at all) put aside for transfers in the on-campus residence halls anymore - for example, there isn’t a transfer floor in San Rafael. I think I’ve also met some transfers who lived in San Clemente, though.

@flushmaverick I live in San Clemente (and I’m a transfer student). But the housing office is quick to remind us transfers that we are only temporarily put here. San Clemente is supposed to be designated for graduate students only. But they don’t have enough grad students to fill all of the apartments. So, they pulled some transfer students from Santa Ynez over to fill those spots. (which also relieved some over-crowding at Santa Ynez). But housing is actively seeking to phase out transfer students from living in San Clemente in the long term. I know that current transfers living in SC were offered to be put in a lottery to stay through the summer 2010. And I’m pretty sure they’ll do the same for the 2011 school year. But I’m not sure about after that.

Sorry to be off topic but… I’m a transfer living in San Clemente. BEST CAMPUS HOUSING EVER! I love it here.
