University Presidents Invited to Olympics

3 are from U.S. Universities
Rice, Yale, and John Hopkins

Rice University | News & Media

Our university president is retiring…(JHU) and he is also very fluent in Mandarin and he has good connects with the Nanjing University (help set up a SAIS international campus there). GO JHU!

Fordham has an MBA Campus in Beijing.

I didn’t know Rice was well know outside in the world…(not to sound mean or anything)

Also, its JOHNSSS HOPKINSSSS. Not John Hopkins. Get it right. :)

oops sorry..

I am not sure this list is all good. It might be more of an honor not to be invited.

Cornell’s president was surely not invited because:

Past president of Taiwan is a Cornell Alum.
Cornell is often the Dalai Lama’s first stop when visiting the U.S.
Ithaca is the home of the Dalai Lama’s “official” residence in the U.S.

Yeah, Michigan had a theme semester on China in the Fall, and even had some ambassador visiting, and the day that ambassador left we announced the Dalai Lama would be visiting in April. Oops.

We all know Rice’s president has yellow fever.

The wife of the current Rice president is Chinese…

The Dalai Lama also visited Rice.

It’s alright Dilsky, Mary Sue may may not be invited, but Michael will bring home 8 Gold medals to the University of Michigan!

Yale is in bed with the Chinese government. Which from a student’s - or a faculty member or administrator, for that matter - perspective is a pretty good thing (Hu Jintao visited campus, 100 Yalies got on a big tour of China last summer full of meetings with leaders and that sort of thing, I’m in China right now with Yale paying for everything, Richard Levin gets to meet with Hu), but likely isn’t so good for our moral standing. All in all, though, I don’t really think Yale is doing much harm with it - though the Yale-China law center creeps me out, we’re helping the Chinese write their laws - so it’s probably a good thing in the end.

Has the Chinese forgiven Yale for producing Bush that quickly  lol, Why are you in China btw…Are you at the games?

Nvm, I see your “typing this message from China, on a Light Fellowship studying Chinese intensively.” lol. Where have you been in China?

The Bushes have been very good for the PRC. If anything China should be thanking Yale–oh, it seems they are.

Bushes have really done nothing good. How is giving the Dalai Lama a White House welcome good for them huh? Accusing China of human rights (which is actually true), getting busy into their internal affairs, exporting key parts of an atom bomb to Taiwan…
