Hi all,
So I have been accepted to UNI but was wondering how well known it is among grad schools (specifically med schools). I would work in the pre-med requirements and really like the idea of the program, but I can’t decide between it and Northwestern. Any thoughts?

I think you should talk to the UNI people. I hear it's a great program; you get top faculty in small settings, get a lot of input into your life, are well treated, have your housing, etc.

As my own choice, I'd take it over Northwestern. Couple of reasons other than the UNI program: NU is in Evanston, which is perfectly nice but is a train ride from actual Chicago (which I love), so kids really don't go into town, and the Greek scene is 30-40% and divides the campus largely in half, with the south area being more for creative people. There is a hierachy in the Greek scene and thus in the social scene and that is not me.

If you're into bigtime sports, NU is in the Big 10 and all that comes with that.

The UNI program is incredible with top faculty mentoring you and awesome housing. The val. of our HS chose it two yrs ago over Harvard, etc. He gets lots of attention at UNI. Many of the students there are more than just bright.
Have you checked the UNI web site and their newsletter online?

Agreed about UNI people. Everyone I've ever met from UNI is very unique. Not in a weird way, just...interesting, self-guided, probing, very bright, and altogether very cool. The program gives you a lot of freedom, probably more freedom than you could find anywhere else. The admissions people are really good at accepting people who seem to need and really want that atmosphere, so I'd say go for it.
