University Scholars Program for 3/17

I am hoping that someone can clarify the card that we received. What does this mean?

"Please note that we will provide support for your travel arrangements."

Cost reimbursement? Hotel recommendation or discount code? I wish they would be clearer so that we can decide what to do since this is during Spring Break.

I was invited to this as well and after speaking with a current NEU University Scholars member on CC, I believe that the school pays for your flight although I am not sure about hotels- I would guess students would stay on campus and parents in hotels? Or students in hotels with their parents if they prefer that

When/how did you get the invite?

Sent from my SPH-L710 using CC

To the program? In the acceptance letter. The official invitation? Through the mail early this week.

Thanks. Does your source know if they pay for the student and a parent to fly out or just the student?

I did call and email but I did not get a reply but may be they are still on holiday schedule.

Last year Northeastern paid for son’s plane ticket and one night in a hotel for parents. My son stayed on campus with current students.

I was also invited. There are more details about registration online the admitted students portal, and from what I read they pay for one night of hotel stay for you and two guests and will pay for air tickets or reimburse you for the miles you drive to Northeastern. Fr instance, if you want to bring another guest (more than two) you would pay at your own expense.

Do they pay for airfare for just the student or student and two guests?

They pay for airfare and hotels for both parents. And they give students the choice of staying in a current student’s dorm or with their parents in a hotel

heygerald - you state that parents airfare is covered? Where did you get your information? After my daughter registered for the weekend, we received an outline of the travel info which states, “Parents may also coordinate their flights with the agents: however the University will only pay the cost of the student’s airfare.”

I hope you’re right, as both my husband and I would like to attend, but probably only one of us will go if it is self pay!

I’m pretty sure they only cover student airfare- I saw the same message when I registered. If need be, I will go alone but since we live in NY, my parents will most likely drive up, and I will fly

I just finished all the arrangements for our visit. NEU will pay one night’s hotel (for the parents) and the student’s airfare. The student can stay in the room or on campus with a host. I’m not sure if the room’s option is available if only the student is coming.

DS is a junior and possibly interested in NEU. He will probably be a NMF.

Is the University Scholars program the honors college at Northeastern?

What are your impressions of the program?

my bad its actually just student’s airfare but with parents hotel for one night

University Scholars is not the same as the Honors program. Honors is offered to the top 10% of admitted students by college. The University Scholars program enrols about 50-75 students per year.

An NMF would in all probabilty be offered Honors but not necessarily University Scholars. Both offer full tuition scholarships.

Is there any additional benefits to being named University Scholars vs. NMF (since the financial package is the same)?

^^Yes:

[The Program | University Scholars Program](The Program - University Scholars Program)

TomSr, I have read that but I would assume that opportunities such as coops, research, designing your study which I am not sure what it means, honors program, are all available to all NMF also. I guess the only thing I saw is the extra community service hours (100) that the UnivSchol are expected to do. Extra advising is nice (may not be very useful in some cases such as engineering with very specific course requirements) but is that it?

NMF do the same community service hours.

So then, it’s all the same? Oh, I forgot that kids in the Honors Program get to live in IV, with upperclassmen and I guess it’s nicer (will see in March) and quieter (just assuming since freshman dorms are usually more rowdy).
