I have been checking old and new threads regarding the University Scholarship (not to be confused with the University Grant), and it seems like this is typically awarded to Trustee and Presidential Scholars.

We did not recieve this scholarship in our financial aid package, and I was curious to know if any other Trustee or Presidential scholars out there, either past or present recieved the University Scholarship.

Columbia_Student, can you elaborate on your answer, I’m not sure I totally understand. Do you mean that if we wait to send in our registration deposit later in the process that it may yield this scholarship??

What exactly is the University Scholarship you’re referring to? My S got a Presidential NMF scholarship & one from his department. Have not heard for the UNiversity Scholarship & would be interested in reading more about it. S is now a rising senior at USC.

HImom, its not a published scholarship and there is little or no information to be found but here are a couple of old threads that talk about it:

My D’s (also a Presidential Scholar) University Scholarship magically appeared in late April last year. I am remembering it as after the 20th or so.

I can add that S also received the University scholarship mysteriously (but very welcome it was!) in latish April. It is an additional $2500/ year on top of the Trustee. I’m not sure if committing to USC later in April is the trigger so I’d be interested in others’ experience. I can’t even recall when S sent in his deposit to attend so I’m not much use in figuring this out. ;)

Hmmm… I don’t know! I do not recall any Presidential scholars posting that they did NOT get it last year, but we actually have a very small sampling here on cc, so it could be that not all received it. It also does not seem to be a widely known scholarship, so it could be those who don’t get it don’t “miss” it and so are not posting about it.

After all the waiting you have done already, I hope it shows up on your award soon!

lol alamemom, it would be a welcome bonus if we get it! Thanks!

@Columbia_Student, thanks for the heads up, we did file our FAFSA which basically only made us eligible for Loans and our USC EFC was about $16,000 higher than our already high FAFSA EFC. That is why I am so interested in any merit aid we can find. Every little bit will help!!

We filed FAFSA but not the CSS Profile, as FAFSA was 99,999. We’re not rich, not poor, just complicated family finances. While USC is in the top two of DS’s school choices, it’s hard to justify twice the cost (of UCLA). Any pittance would help, though.

Only in the crazy world of college expenses would a scholarship of $2500/year= $10,000! be rightly considered a pittance. Our family was shocked our S was offered additional $$ on top of the amazing Trustee scholarship and I really thank USC for understanding how much this extra “little bit” does help.

Your right madbean, it all adds up. Plus it is important to remember that it is all after tax money so you would have to earn significantly more before taxes to net that same $2,500 of tuition dollars!!
