University Selection

Hello,
I am confused between UMN, USC and NCSU for MS in CS.

I am inclined more towards research work in my MS degree as I will be applying for PhD later but good job scenario is also important.

I want to specialize in Artificial Intelligence or Systems

Please help me out to select the best one.

Thank you.

I think UMN (if that is university of minnesota) <a href=“Research areas | Department of Computer Science and Engineering | College of Science and Engineering”>Research areas | Department of Computer Science and Engineering | College of Science and Engineering; has good research opportunities. So does USC. Not sure about NCSU, but UMN and USC are probably better in research. Did you get admission already and have they offered a TA/RA position? That is a big factor in decision as well.

Thanks for replying.

Yes it is University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. No I don’t have any offer for TA/RA from any of them.

I have almost dropped NCSU from my list now. The main confusion is between UMN and USC.
Both are good universities and well reputed. USC is ranked higher for Computer Science than UMN but UMN is cheaper and more selective for MS.

Totally Confused :(

You might want to post in those college sections in CC. Minnesota is of course very very cold but the graduate CS department is quite good. USC is of course in warm and sunny LA.

I am very new to this forum. Can you give me the link to those threads ?

Thank you.

try this…all colleges are alphabetized.

[Alphabetic List of Colleges - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/alphabetic-list-colleges/)

According to USNews ranking http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-science-schools/computer-science-rankings

USC is actually ahead of UMN. Not sure if you are currently in India or Europe, but if money is not a major issue, go with USC (Minnesota has long harsh winters). Anyway, just my opinion.
