does anyone know how competitive and difficult it is to transfer into the architecture program. How likely is it for me to transfer into the program after one year? how does this work? i really want to be in the architecture program eventually...

Here's a link to the reqs I also want to transfer since I was only accepted to University Studies but I applied for Industrial Design [url=http://archdesign.vt.edu/admissions/transfer]VT · school of architecture + design · a+d · transfer students/url

Exceptionally difficult, it isn't likely you'll be able to get in.

From reading through that link and other information on the CAUS website, it looks like a tough thing to do. One part that could really be a factor in today's economy is the cost.

If in March a first year student is accepted as a potential transfer into CAUS, he/she is required to take both summer design studios. This means you would have to have housing/food/etc. for the summer. Then your work is assessed by the faculty and if, not definitely, if that student is accepted, he or she is placed into what could be 1st year design again, so you likely would take 6 years to get your BARCH rather than the 5.

If it were my son/daughter wanting to do this, I would definitely recommend them finding out the history/stats of how many students transferred in, how many were denied after the summer studios, and where those students who were accepted were placed (1st year design vs. 2nd for their sophomore year). Not an easy endeavor, but some may be up to the challenge I guess.
