university wind ensemble

hi guys! i'm an incoming freshman looking to do wind ensemble. not a music major, just a hobby of mine, and hoping to clear the arts&literature breadth requirement at the same time. i play the flute. how hard is it to get in/what are my chances? i'm not extremely talented but i have finished cm and abrsm.

They say that if you could get into honor band in high school, then you have pretty good chances. That’s a really rough teller though, and I’m not sure about how “competitive” the flute section is.

thanks for your response. do you know how many spots there are or how many people generally try out?

I don’t really remember, I’ve never actually tried out until this Fall, actually. But you might be interested to know that in the Spring there are two wind ensembles, the regular one and another one that anyone can join, but is mostly made available for Cal Band members to have something to do during the Spring semester. I would go with that one, it’s really a lot of fun and the least time-consuming. And you should join Cal Band lol.
