Unlikely likely chances?

SAT: 1760
GPA: 3.2

Sounds dismal, right?

Does factoring in;
- President of two clubs
- Hours upon hours of dedicated Community Service to one group
- After school Symphony
- Fifth year language
- 4 APs
- Takes an 8th period class through Running Start
- Leadership Camp
- Asian (but not China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Phillip, or India)
- Pretty good/meaningful essay

... help?

My 9/10th grade grades were horrific, and they certainly took a toll. But this year (Sr. Year), I'm cramming in easy As, and should end up with 18 more semester credits by this year's end- and all should be staying at least above B grades. I'll also be deleting a D and F from last year.

On average, that will raise my cumulative GPA to around 3.5 at best, 3.3 at worst.

Would that make my chances better?

Problem is, UW won't know my Senior year until my transcript gets to them.
And I'd have to be accepted by then.

So did declaring a 3.19 give them an image of a failing student? Apps are closed, but I'm just depressed not knowing how to display the image of me actually changing (albeit too late). I did state my Sr grades (unofficial, but wth), which are all As aside from a B.

First impression is that it doesn’t look too good. Don’t let that stop you from applying though. Write a really good personal statement.

Don’t worry you still have a chance, but your gpa is def. not in favor with you. They have a holistic approach in admitting students so they’ll consider everything. In the event that you don’t get in, you can appeal, but make sure you show drastic improvement. Best of Luck!

You shouldn’t have filled in your senior grades; they only want official ones.

If you have 45 credits of Community College credit at, say, Bellevue College then they will not consider the HS GPA a black mark against you.

I am applying to U-Dub as well, and I would say your chances aren’t impossible, but they’re not exactly in your favor. I have several relatives and many friends that have attended or are currently attending the UW and they have all said that this year is going to be bad in terms of admissions. I’m at the top of my class and even did an internship at the UW and even I’m freaking out about getting in. Just keeps a positive attitude and even if you don’t get in it won’t be the end of the world. Have you considered UW Bothell? There you can get the same UW education and that campus has a much higher acceptance rate. I’m applying there too just in case the UW doesn’t want me. LOL. I know how you feel, it’s tough being a running start student (I’m doing running start too). Trying to juggle both college work and college applications is something most others aren’t used to doing. Hopefully that will help you out. And don’t worry about your senior grades to much. I was talking to an admissions officer at the UW and he said they’re a lot more lenient to running start students about senior grades. I wish you good luck in the application process and hopefully we’ll both get to be huskies next fall!

Good point! But UW Tacoma is much nicer than UW Bothell. I’d rather go to UWT than UWB and they are developing much better. Also transportation to anything fun from UWB is wayyy harder than UWT especially since you can take the Sounder Train for free with your Husky Card and it will drop you off right next to Seahawks Stadium.

“Have you considered UW Bothell? There you can get the same UW education and that campus has a much higher acceptance rate.”

You could do this… but the ‘same UW education’ really depends on the department. If you really want to go to UW Seattle, you can take more community college courses then reapply. It’s a lot easier to get into UW as a transfer from cc than it is from UWB/UWT (these schools are considered completely separate institutions), even though they’re both “UW” campuses. You can take a certain number of courses at UWSeattle if you’re at UWT/UWB, but at one point there will be a cap.

For example, if you’re going to try to get an engineering or biochem degree, going to UWB/UWT is definitely not at the same level as UW Seattle. The departments are separate, funding is independent, faculty is different, research… etc.

Yeah, the cross campus limit is 15 credits per year. I’m taking the UWB Business minor since there isn’t one at UW Seattle.

Sadly, UW Bothell or Tacoma don’t offer either my major aspirations (Intl Relations and Environmental Studies).

Also, I’m not a full Running Start student, but takes just one class on top of my HS 7. The extra A grades from 101 and 105 courses should serve as major GPA boost (up at least .30)

If worst comes to worst, I’ll transfer from Bellevue College (my RS school). Does anyone know contesting procedure (request reexamination of application?)

That Scoop Jackson School at UW is tough man. I know a guy in my Econ major who has a solid GPA (other than a 2.1 in Calc3) who was declined from that program even though he speaks Mandarin, Spanish and Korean. Also, UW Bothell has two degrees in the Environment. Environmental Science and Environmental Studies. They actually are planning on expanding the Environmental programs, there’s a big “Proposed Land Use Action” sign up there at the campus.

To give you some hope, nin10dude, I got accepted last year with similar numbers, but I had a few more AP classes and 4 honors classes throughout high school. But I would say my extracurricular activities were pretty good and very relevant to who I am, and I worked about 4-5 months on my essays lol which turned out to be pretty good. Just hope your essays were good and you will have a chance…
