Has anyone heard anything more about UNM possibly going test optional for juniors graduating high school next year? I have not gotten good feedback and it seems odd that they would not take this into higher consideration since many other top-tier schools have already said that they are test optional for fall 2021 admissions.
Haven’t seen a TO announcement from them yet. Contact admissions and ask if they are discussing this and if so, when might they make a decision.
I have - unfortunately all they said was that they didn’t think anything would change but to stay updated… seems a little odd to me
Seems like you have your answer, why does it seem odd? There are many public schools that haven’t gone test optional, with no plans to do so.
A few thoughts:
Testing will resume in a few months, so there’s plenty of time to take an exam and meet scholarship deadlines in late fall. UNM has generous scholarships and significant resources for awarding–if you deserving, you will receive a sizable award.
However, I’ll note that UNM has recently announced that they are “test optional” for Fall 2020 applicants; many high school seniors that waited until March were/are not able to test, so admission is being considered–and in some cases, even at this late spring period–scholarships for students based on their high school academic record.
No decision has been made for 2021 applicants, but it’s likely test optional will be adopted permanently by UNM.
