"Unnamed Scholarship" Paying on CARS?? Help!

I first called the CARS office a few days ago. I'd had a block on my account over the weekend of the 7th and 8th. It was cleared on the 10th. I wanted to make sure my funds would be cleared in time to pay on my CARS account. The CARS office, however, told me that an unnamed outside scholarship had paid on my account for roughly the same amount as my Cal Grant and UG Scholarship. It had paid on Friday the 6th (4 days before Cal Grants are paid out). I figured something had gone wrong and somehow the scholarship was given in place of my UG and Cal Grant money.

The Financial aid office said the same thing and told me my Cal Grant had not been paid to CARS yet (when I talked to them on the 10th). They said an unnamed scholarship had paid the majority of my bill on the 6th, but didn't have any info besides that. I told them it seemed like a mistake since I'd never been notified of any other scholarship -- and a hefty one like this would likely have come to my attention.

MyFinAid still shows my CalGrant as 0 for being paid out -- but MyFinAid site is notorious for being late (and this was confirmed by the Financial Aid guy).

Has anyone ever heard of/experienced this??? Is it possible the "outside scholarship" is just a mixup and the financial aid office made a mistake? Does Cal Grant ever pay out early? Are most of your Cal Grants being listed as paid under Award Payment Status in MyFinAid by now?

Super confused. I'd love to have that extra chunk of money come my way, but I'm not getting my hopes up in the least.

An unnamed outside scholarship?? One you didn’t know about or apply for??? That’s truly weird. I don’t know if I would count on that money yet, but I sure hope it’s accurate. That would be awesome for you. I have heard of Berkeley UG scholarships being named and covering need (including Cal Grant if it has not funded or you didn’t qualify for one) but never a surprise outside scholarship that paid in addition to this…

It’s common for finaid to replace the ug grant with random grants

they take all available resources and simply distribute them to meet financial “need”

Right, that’s what I meant. But the OP is saying an outside scholarship??? I thought she meant some random scholarship that Berkeley had nothing to do with. haha

CARS made it seem as if they scholarship was replacing something else. The financial aid office made it very clear they saw it as a separate scholarship on top of everything else. I told the guy I doubted it. He said, “Well, do you want to give it back?” Har har.

My UG scholarship was only for 740. I also have Cal Grant A. This scholarship was for much more than my UG scholarship.

My “student loans and work” amount listed in My Net Cost in MyFinAid is 11,500.

I experienced the same issue. Recently saw a weird scholarship that Google had no info on listed in the Award Details of MyFinAid. Today however, while that scholarship is still listed, my Berkeley undergrad scholarship has gone missing despite of the fact that both showed up as “confirmed” just a few days ago when I checked. I decided to send the Financial Aid office an email to find out what’s going on. It truly is weird.

Has anyone’s Berkeley Undergraduate funded?? Anyone have any idea when these will pay out???

no funding yet on parent plus loan if that’s what you’re talking about, reading your ? made me feel better, thought something bad happened and maybe there was a problem with my application this year.

My quick statement showed 0 dollars owed a few days ago. Now I owe 5500.

Strange. It’s as if the mystery scholarship was retracted and my Cal Grant (which still shows as not being paid on MyFinAid) hasn’t caught up to credit my account yet.

Something was paid however – I think it’s the UG scholarship for 740?? (which is not even listed under Award Payment Status).

My Ford Direct Loan did pay out also.

^Same here, mine showed $0, and now shows $8500. I’m guessing the system is just screwed up.
