Unofficial Transcripts

My S is an athlete and is in the early stages of being recruited by a few schools. He is currently a Junior. A couple of coaches have asked him to send his unofficial transcripts at the end of his Junior year. Would this just be copies of his report cards or is this a document prepared by his high school?

Thanks in advance

The transcript is a complete academic record of your son’s final (hs) grades, by class year and has GPA’s, class rank, an explanation of the grading and ranking system the school uses.

It is normally controlled and produced within the school’s guidance department.

I would check with them or his guidance counselor.

An unofficial copy is usually available fairly quickly at the end of each term; an official copy has an embossed school seal, and is normally delivered in a secured envelope with a seal or signature over the envelope flap, (to indicate previous opening and potential tampering), and is usually mailed directly from the school to the appropriate requested designee.

Make sure you or son verifies the accuracy of the info prior to sending. Mistakes can be common.

At our local hs, any teacher can access and print out an unofficial transcript from his or her computer. Agree wholeheartedly to check it for mistakes.

You should be able to get an unofficial from the school. They can just copy what they have, it won’t be updated of course. Having gone through this you will probably need to send unofficial test scores also.
