Unofficial: UF admits 9,800 out of 25,300 = 38.7%

Disclaimer: I got this information from a couple of different sources (Tampa Tribune and The Alligator) This is not an official press release from UF...

*If these figure are true. UF admitted 9,800 out of 25,300 total applicants. This equates to 38.7% and We have less than 20% that were Out-of-State.

*Whereas UVA admitted 5,000 out of 18,000 total applicants.
This equates to 27.7%, not to mention that they admitted almost 50% that were Out-of-State.

Bottom line: UF is not as exclusive/elitest as some people on here would have you believe. Our main competition is UVA, UMichigan, and UCLA and we need to be able to compete with these institutions.

Here are some Non-Ivy League Schools admissions Stats: Now here are real exclusive Universities...

NORTHWESTERN admits 4,852 of 20,649 for 2011 RD = 23.4 %

DUKE admits 3,770 of 19,170 applicants for 2011 = 19.6 %

STANFORD admits 2,465 of 23,956 applicants for 2011 = 10.2 %

Why should it come down to how many people the university can reject? If thats how you become a great university then it makes no sense, because i thought the point was to educate and graduate as many students as possible.

This is just what Higher Education in America has become...

It is now set in stone, and will forever be this way... But to be completely honest I prefer a Merit System over a Cronie System any day.

Also remember they only have space for ~6,600 students. They admit enough students to compensated for the students that will decide not to go, which is why they accepted 9,800. (The number they accept is based on previous years retention rate). Also its not about how much they can reject. They cant accept everyone that applies; there isn't enough resources, money, and class space for that. The money they get from the state is not enough to support the school. I remember seeing the number onetime but, I dont remember the exact number but it was low.

I can almost guarantee the Yield Rate will be higher than expected (on account of the Football & Basketball Championships this year). The Class of 2010 is going to be bloated.

There operating budget is over 1 billion, the next closest school is usf which get i believe 300million less.

They don't get that one billion from the state. They get a lot of there money from patents, research ($340 mil), and some other stuff.

$518 million in research actually.

Hopefully its not bloated, I remember they had a problem in 2005 when ~7000 freshmen decided to come and UF wasn't expecting that and they had to search for more resources and increase the caps on some classes. On-campusing housing was almost impossible that year for the freshmen.

Well thats straight from the data published by SUS, dont know where the money comes from and what not.

I know I will probably upset people on here but: 9,800 was too much. I am sorry but UF is the hottest University in the country right now. Alot of students that had us as a safety are now coming to UF instead. We are having financial trouble with the CLAS, and yet we are going to be throwing another couple hundred kids in to fulfill their Gen ED. This is not smart.

This is just my honest opinion..

watch out for UF ... just last year UVA had an admissions rate of 38% according to usnews...that could be UF next year...

UF is getting there. Note that the acceptance rate of 2004 was 53.1%

You mean class of 2011?

dre means 2004...2006=38%

You guys seriously shouldn't just single out UF, all the best public universities that are doing this.

Check out UCLA's stats for their incoming class:

*UCLA admitted 11,837 prospective freshmen for fall 2007 out of an applicant pool of 50,729. This equates to 23.3%

<a href="http://newsroom.ucla.edu/page.asp?RelNum=7826%5B/url%5D">http://newsroom.ucla.edu/page.asp?RelNum=7826</a></p>

*Berkeley: The admit rate has dropped to 23.2 for fall 2007 from 23.6 in fall 2006

<a href="http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2007/04/05_admissions.shtml%5B/url%5D">http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2007/04/05_admissions.shtml</a></p>

50,000 application. Wow, that is a lot to go through.

50,000 are you serious? from the numbers I hear that is like double what UF had!! Must have taken them some time to got through all those

Wow, last year's class (Fall/summer 2006) had a 48.2% admittance rate! If that article is true, that is a big drop! In daughter's class (UF 2010) last year, 22,093 students applied, 10,652 were accepted and 6702 enrolled.
