I noticed there wasn’t a transfer thread for this year. I thought it would be nice to post stats and talk about transfer admissions for this year. The deadline is 2/15/2016!

It looks like everyone has a really good shot so far! I have a feeling it will be competitive!
Is anyone else looking to join the Transfers United club if they are accepted? There is a specific residence building for members of that transfer group.
I was not aware of this club…hopefully I can check it out if accepted. I agree that the competition looks steep…judging from past threads, you never really know what unc is looking for.
I just looked it up on their website, it turns out only people entering as juniors can apply(?) for it. Too bad, seemed like a pretty interesting club.

Also does being out of state hurt chances?
Being out of state has no affect on transfer admissions just on freshman admissions. You look really competitive, though you only have one semester so far, so it can be hard to gauge.

I know it can be kind of hard to gauge, but does this look somewhat competitive? I’d really appreciate any feedback.

Does anyone know the financial aid situation? Are transfers looked at the same as regular applicants? Also is there a chance that we could be awarded merit-aid?
I don’t know how they disburse aid for transfers…it is to my understanding, though, that they will meet the needs of anyone who demonstrates it…on the site it says to fill out the fasfa/css profile by March 1…in our case, we haven’t been accepted but are highly recommended to do so anyway.

I think my essays are average but show a strong interest to go to UNC.
Is there a lower out of state acceptance rate? Do they also take into account how rigorous the college we attend is?
First semester I had to withdraw from a class because the teacher was flat out awful but I still finished with a high gpa will that hurt my chances of getting in?
Jdrew - I honestly think the answer to that question would depend heavily on your high school stats…in reference to the unc website, if you only have one year of college under your belt they moreso focus on your high school GPA and courses…if it isn’t too much trouble asking, why are you looking to transfer out of nc state? I have applied to transfer there…it is one of my top choices and I’m anxiously waiting a decision. Would love any insight you have.
Gowolfpacks18- NC state is honestly a really great school, but I’m majoring in psychology, looking to become a clinical psychiatrist, and UNC has the better psychology department when it comes to the nueroscience aspect, which is important for me. Also UNC has been my dream school since I was a kid. What are you planning on majoring in if you transfer into NC state?
