@nick20watson you are independent? Though my GPA is pretty good, I am not expecting merit aid if accepted…from watching these threads it seems like they give little merit aid to even the most qualified of applicants that are in the freshmen class. My only concern with being independent is that some schools believe that since you are independent, it is okay if they only offer loans. For example, I was accepted to unc Charlotte and their aid package is 12k of loans…I haven’t received my package from nc state but can only pray it’s better.
@Gowolfpacks18 yessir. A huge variable with financial aid is your EIC. The 12k in loans, was that government aid or direct loans from the university? I’m OOS so if they don’t offer a decent amount of scholarships/grants, I’m screwed anyway since I can’t afford tuition on my own.
@nick20watson being an independent student, my efc is quite low…the two loans I received from uncc were federal unsubsidized/subsidized loans (12k)…I received 4 need based federal grants that totaled 10k…but they were strictly nc resident grants luckily I am not attending bc being 24k in debt for just 2 years alone is absurd…not sure if unc does this but some schools give OOS students in-state tuition if their grades are good enough.
@nick20watson I also want to mention that uncc is a school that is up and coming. They don’t have the institutional grants/funds that unc and nc state have. I am anxiously expecting and have heard that nc state/unc are more generous in aid to those who need it because of the great funds they have. but we shall see
Oy I wish UNC could just give us our decision now. Why do transfers have to be last? I was very proactive and submitted my application in August 2015. I been so patient since then, but now I’m tired of waiting. But unfortunately I have no choice.
@chaimtov wow that was extra early…what are your stats?? Good luck!
Thanks @Gowolfpacks18. I’m currently a sophomore and going to transfer as a junior. I have a gpa of a 3.4. My major is Global studies. I am an Resident Advisor, was vise president of administration for Hillel, and apart of UNCG national honors society. My high school gpa was a 4.0 weighted. I forgot what my SAT scores were, but I know they weren’t the best. So I don’t know how everything is going to turn out, but I did the best I could on both essays in the application. What about you?
@chaimtov very nice stats, I think you will have a great shot I will transfer as a junior (hopefully), current GPA is a 3.78 from a nc community college. My major will be philosophy. I am working 2 jobs, high school GPA was about a 3.5 Unweighted. Luckily as junior transfers we didn’t have to send in SAT scores because mine were terrible. my essays were from the heart so i feel like they were strong because of that. Unc is my first choice but will be happy wherever life takes me (as lame as it sounds). Excited for the weeks to come!!
Hopefully this championship run in basketball will add a little leniency to the admissions reviews lol
@Gowolfpacks18 UNC is my first choice too! I wish you the best of luck.
Last year, transfers found out on April 9th…the 9th runs on a Saturday this year…I wish we’d find out on the 8th but maybe that is too much wishful thinking lol
Currently a Freshman at Elon University
Major : Biology
GPA: 3.7

EC: Played D1 football for a year at Elon until I decided I wanted to focus primarily on school since football took an enormous of time out of school. Hoping it works out for everyone!
@MarJR15 wow you should be good. Did you apply to any other schools? With a record like that you should have a lot of great options.
I would appreciate if anyone would take the time to chance me:
Major: Economics
Current College: East Carolina University
Grade: Sophomore (applying as Junior)
GPA: 3.558
SAT: (Did not submit- not required for junior applicants)

I submitted two strong essays along with two recommendations from professors. Thanks for taking the time to review my stats. Best of luck to everyone!
@MarJR15
What are your reasons for transferring from Elon? I’m also a freshman applying to UNC from Elon.
@chaimtov
Also applied to UVA…Honestly, I don’t want to be too far from home haha
Since I stopped playing football I wanted to try and get into a higher-ranked school. I don’t dislike Elon, but I don’t think it is the school for me. What about you?
@jj0996 wow I’m impressed. You have nothing to worry about. You’re already apart of a program at UNC.
@MarJR15
It’s mostly academics here. Elon isn’t bad, but as a finance major UNC is much better. Also, socially, I don’t mind it here, but the culture does seem a bit immature and stuck in high school. My least favorite thing is the academic culture among students here, doesn’t seem like many people really strive for academic excellence.
I definitely agree. Some students seem to work hard, others don’t seem to care. Social life can be pretty exclusive and cliquey. I want to be around more people also striving for academic achievement.
