Unofficial UNC Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

@screenname34 not that email but I did get an email that requests an explanation for taking a gap year from hs to college

Seems odd they waited this long… April 4th is what, 10 days before we expect a decision?

@screenname34 my only guess (and hope) is that they are already reviewing transfer apps…they have released decisions between the 9th and 15th these last few years…I hope we don’t have to wait long

Right but they are asking for information which is probably pertinent to their decision 10 days before they release decisions… So are they reviewing all applicants over a 10 day period?

Thats alot of reviewing todo. 3000 x 2 =6000 essays avg 400 words maybe. 240,000 words

And that’s only a fraction of the process

There’s no way they haven’t already started to review/accept/deny some applications.

@Gowolfpacks18 I think you may be right. I applied on 2/4 and they requested an education gap explanation within the week. I can’t imagine the folks in Admissions only giving themselves 10 days to go through all this.

^ from what I’ve read, admissions counselors read apps then present the ones that have a possibility of acceptance to a group of admissions counselors. Maybe the latter is happening now?

@catlas2014 You’re probably correct. I just hope they didn’t request that stuff early from me so they could count my app as “complete” and then chunk it in the reject pile :))

Does not getting an email about anything imply something?

@Jdrew153 The only thing not getting an email would imply is that your package is absolutely complete.

@ShovelBum18 if it isn’t too personal, how long was your gap? Mine was an academic year. I touched up on it briefly in one of the required essays which leads me to believe they haven’t read it yet…or strictly just want more info. Regardless I hope it doesn’t hurt us :frowning:

@Jdrew153 not getting an email seems better than getting one in this case. Lol

Was wondering if someone could chance me?

Applied last year and was denied EA.

Current: OOS freshman attending Elon University in NC.
Semester hours: 37 semester hours completed (16 from AP and 16 more this spring semester)
CGPA: 4.0
Major: Finance

HS: Went to a top 25 in the country boarding school.
SATS: 770 Math 640 Reading 690 Writing
HS GPA: We went on a 100 point scale and i was probably 2 points below the average for UNC OOS
HS EC: 11 varsity letters, won various all league, school, and all New England awards in each of three sports. Also was a tri-varsity captain. Qualified for nationals in 2 sports my senior year, but this was after my EA decision.
Club head of the Politically Incorrect Debate Club, club head of the Young Republicans club. Took a course outside the academic day titled “Youth in Philanthropy” for community service. Served as a dorm proctor (essentially our school’s version of an RA).

College EC: Financial Management Association, and Economics Club.
Also worked the same job since junior year during summers and vacations.
LOR: 1 from the head of the Chemistry department.
Essays: Definitely the weakest part of my application a year ago, but I would say they are very strong this year.

Pros: Older sibling doing very well at UNC.
Cons: OOS and a bit of a dip in senior spring grades. Also have Business as an intended major.

@Gowolfpacks18 My gap was more like a decade and a half, so I imagine you’re in better shape than I am. It just took me that long to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. In a way I’m glad I waited because of the plethora of kids I encounter everyday that are piling on debt, yet have no clue what they really want to do.

@ShovelBum18 I understand they need an explanation but I hope it’s just that and not heavily weighed into our decisions. I’m also hoping that they wouldn’t bother with this if they weren’t seriously considering us. Fingers crossed for the both of us.

@Gowolfpacks18 I’m with you on this - why would they bother with asking if they are going to outright reject us, right? They most likely just want to make sure we weren’t tanking at another school that we’ve failed to report grades for, or something along those lines. Good luck!!!
