My rising HS senior D just started to fence seven months ago , loves it and seems to have a great aptitude (according to coaches, not just me ;) My questions are 1. If she were to be accepted academically into a college with a Div 1,2, or 3 team (which is a possibility) would she get a chance to practice with the fencing team at all, or would she need to put her new-found fencing aspirations aside? and 2. Do college club teams have coaches at all, or are the fencers just helping each other out? Finally, can anyone advise me on the strongest club teams for fencing in the northeast? Thank you all for the great posts regarding fencing!

I would expect that many teams (such as Vassar, Cornell, and Haverford) would welcome a walk on relative novice, while teams deep in talent (PSU, OSU, Notre Dame for example) would be less receptive.

I know next to nothing about club teams, but I’d expect very little coaching.

Thanks so much, I appreciate your response.
