Unrealistic expectations from parents - full ride scholarships

Doesn’t the student live in San Diego? If so, maybe the parents want the kid to attend San Diego State?

@ItsJustSchool @ucbalumnus @TheDidactic @cptofthehouse @BrownParent @thumper1 @mommdc Thank you for the detailed advice everyone. These were very genuine answers and I appreciate the insight. I will take everything you said into consideration and I have a fuller understanding of my parents’ reasoning now. Thank you all again and good luck with your future endeavors!

If you give us more info on PSAT, GPA, and planned major, we can help more. That isn’t really identifying information for you, and there are lots of very experienced people out here who can help!

@shellehcim we can suggest colleges that might give you aid if you share your gpa and SAT breakdown and maybe what the preferences are. I take it you are interested in NYC, that’s not unusual, but what’s up in MI? And what is your college locally you get free tuition, would you commute from home? What is the cost you have to match in order to go oos? Also, are you Pell Grant eligible?

You could commute to UCSD and graduate debt-free from there. It’s a prestigious university and highly unlikely to be “an extension from high school.” Plus, you could study abroad comfortably with minimum loans.

Michigan-Ann Arbor will be impossible unless you’re an academic superstar, come from an extremely low income household (less than $33,000/year for both parents combined), and are willing to take the full federal loan amount.
Cornell and Columbia in NY are possible, but you also need to be an academic superstar.
Do revise your list.
