Unrealistic I know, but I am still curious....

So I am a junior in high school and I am wondering if I have a chance at getting into Harvard....I am a Harvard legacy (which I am hoping will help considerably). My GPA is around a B/B+. I have lots of extra circulars, and I got a 32 on the ACT. Next year I plan on taking 3 AP's. Do I have a shot?

Honestly no. Legacy helps but it’s not nearly enough to salvage a B average or a 32 ACT, both of which are extremely low for Harvard. Look for other colleges

I believe you might, I can’t chance you because of lack of information. Getting into a prestigious like that college takes MUCH more than academics. HYP are the type of unsuspecting schools- they tend to turn away perfect scores for many reasons. In reality, those schools like for diversity education wise, from all walks of life, they tend to take account of meaning AND grades, not just grades. Academics are crucial nonetheless, but if you have mindblowing EC’s or extremely notable things to put on your app, I think there might be a chance, honestly. It isn’t an unknown instance where a B average got into a place like Harvard by other means. But if you have average joe EC’s or accomplishments, then I have to say no.

Which why I can’t effectively chance you- mind if I ask about your EC’s/notable accomplishments?

No sorry

Looking only at your academics and basing off of other posts from this forum, probably not… Sorry… However, Harvard does sometimes accept people at the “low end of the spectrum.” I don’t know why, but there’s always that .001% chance, so I’d apply.

Legacy would give you a preference if you had better grades, but I do not believe they would except you unless you are a recruit.

Legacy only really helps if you are on the fence. Unfortunately you are not really in the range for acceptance, so I don’t think your chances are great. Still apply to see! You never know!

Your ACT may be fine as it is touching the mid 50, but your GPA is very low. It would be hard even with legacy and URM.

Nope. If you fit the range of accepted students, that legacy edge would still give you about even odds. The way it works, I doubt you have a chance.

Legacy only helps if you’re within range. Unless you have an EC of international-level caliber such as competing in the Olympics for sports or math, you’re way out of range.
For realistic prospects, look at universities ranked 30-50 and LACs ranked 40-75, plus regional universities ranked 1-10 depending on if you want merit aid or not. With a 3.5/32, you are automatically qualified for UAlabama’s Honors Scholarship (Full-tuition, Honors College/Honors Dorm, priority registration and a bunch of other perks).
