Ok so I'm only a freshman, and I'm trying to figure out what my passions are that I will pursue for the rest of my high school years. So far I found two EC's that I really like: debate club and science fair. I love politics, and I've participated in a couple of debate tournaments. But I also love science, especially chemistry, and I'm working on my science fair project. I hope to win awards in both of these areas, because I'm willing to invest a lot of time and effort into them. Assuming that i have the grades and test scores by the time I apply, which I'll work hard to obtain, would my varied passions hurt my chances?

If having varied interests hurt your chances of getting into a school, why would you want to attend that school?

No, having varied interests is not a disadvantage, and it may even help set you apart from cookie cutter “science” or “politics” applicants.
