Hey guys,
I'm currently a first-year at Smith, and I'm not really into it. I applied last year as a freshman to Wesleyan, and didn't get in. I blame it mostly on my terrible high school, less than helpful guidance department, and lack of senior year work ethic. Anyway, I've been considering re-applying to Wes as a transfer for my sophomore year. However, I'm thinking that my first-year GPA isn't going to be spectacularly impressive. First semester, I believe I'm going to end up with two A's and two C's (eeep). I haven't really been going crazy in the extracurricular department either, because I'm so unhappy with the school, that I prefer to just spend most of my time in my room sulking and being angsty and lame.

I feel that Wes really has the kind of student body that I'm looking for, and that I'd be much happier there than I am here. Any suggestions on how to improve my chances for transfer admission? I'm feeling like it may not even be a very viable option for me at this point.

Thaaaanks!

I think you should consider either applying for several less competitive schools that have an environment LIKE Wesleyan (maybe Sarah Lawrence, Whitman). If you really want to leave your school after this year, do some research into safety schools you might not be THAT excited about but would still rather attend over Smith.

Or wait another year and raise your GPA and get more involved in ECs. As a junior year transfer, your high school record is going to matter less though the focus will be more on your college record.

Good luck! I’m considering applying for Wes next year too…I feel like I’m spending too much time researching transfer apps b/c I’m depressed about my lack of ECs. Hopefully you’ll be able to get more involved next semester, both for your app and for your enjoyment. =)

My high school record is pretty decent (apparently it wasn’t good enough for Wes last year though :P), so I’d rather have that stressed than my subpar first-year Smith grades. I’m definitely going to get involved with some ECs next semester, and hopefully that’ll do some good. Good luck to you with Wes, too! :]

Is there anyone around who transferred into Wes?
