alright, i am currently a freshman at pace university in nyc and i couldn't hate it any more. i thought being in the city would be awesome but it blows. i am definitely transferring after this semester, but i am unsure where to go. i am a pretty average student, my gpa in hs was 3.15, i got a 1650 on my sats (630M,500CR) and i have a ton of ECs, so i am somewhat limited. here are my current options:

1.i could go to community college for a semester and see what transfer possibilities there are

2.i could go to community college for the long haul and get my associate's degree in computer science (my major btw) and attempt to transfer to a good school (looking at boston u, marist college, RPI)

3.i could go to clarkson university, which i gained acceptance to coming out of high school. my sister goes there, i work for a tech startup based there, etc...it could be a great match

PROBLEM: i am extremely unsure about everything i do now. since i'm having a horrible time now, it's making me overthink every decision i make. with clarkson, i don't want to go there to find out that i'm just not fit for the dorming life, etc.. with the community college, i know it's going to affect my morale and make me possibly miss out on a great college life, even though i'd be saving a lot of money.

so that's pretty much it. any responses will be greatly appreciated, i just need some other opinions on what i should do incase i'm being oblivious to anything. thank you!!!

My advice would be pick the path that leads to the least regrets. To me, that seems like Clarkson may be it for you.

As a person who went to community college, I can tell you that it’s not as bad as it’s made out to be. The social scene can be abysmal sometimes, and you may feel detached, but I still enjoyed it. Some of the professors there were really passionate about their expertise, and even better: since there are only 30 students or so per class, I got to interact with them whenever I’d like. However, like I said, socially it can be pretty bad. I ended up making a lot of friends twice my age. I didn’t mind, but if you’re someone who wants to party all the time, you may have to look elsewhere.

Also, if you go to a community college, you MUST apply yourself, and don’t go with the flow of some students who don’t care as much. There are a lot of extremely smart and eager to learn students there too!

I actually avoided going to a university because of financial reasons and I didn’t want to do dorms. I’m going to Michigan-Ann Arbor right now, paying for my own house because I was able to make money on the side while going to a community college, and am absolutely loving it.

The thing with Clarkson you have to watch out for is getting yourself in the same exact position you’re in now. If that’s going to be the case, then why bother transferring? But only you have the true insight on if you’d enjoy it there much more or not, so I leave that to you. Best of luck!
