Currently, I am a high school senior and will be attending the University of Georgia in the fall. I really am unsure of what to major in and would appreciate some help in deciding. I've always wanted to be some sort of doctor, such as an anesthesiologist or pediatric surgeon but I'm not sure anymore. I was accepted to UGA with an intended major of chemistry but when I took a college chem class, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I've never liked biology so I know I wouldn't want to major in that. I've always been very good in math, it comes naturally to me, but I don't think that's a reasonable major as there's not much to do with it. I always thought genetics was interesting but I've never taken a course in it and I'm afraid it would be too difficult. When I enter UGA I'll be a sophomore, I have 30 credits from AP and dual enrollment, so I need to start planning a major soon. What majors are good if I plan on going to medical school? If I end up not wanting to enter med school, what's a major that deals with children, besides teachin?. I really love kids and have worked at a day care for almost two years so I have lots of experience working with them. I want some major that will help me to get a job right out of school (unless I enter med school) and pays decent.

If you don’t like biology or chemistry and haven’t dabbled in other sciences, I am wondering whether you’d have the heart to make it through med school.

Some careers that involve working with children include speech-language pathologist, social work, psychologist or clinician, guidance counselor, and other aspects of education (such as working in administration). You could major in sociology, psychology, or primary/secondary education. You may need to pursue a masters degree for many of these careers, and not all are well-paying.

You could also study business and developmental psychology and open your own business, such as a childcare facility.
