IDK about your dad being your custodial parent (along with your mom) AND “considered unmarried” to your mom. It seems like a conflict to me but I’m not sure.

I requested my css profile to change their marital status to married. And on fafsa I put married and hoh. They are married and my dad’s living solely depends on my mom. She sends money to my dad periodically.
My take is the dad isn’t an NCP. His financials should be included on the primary profile and fafsa. The OP will likely be expected to provide additional documentation of the situation because the tax filing of the mom doesn’t match up with the marital status.
OK. What would that consist of? Also, I cannot find the Non tax-filer form on IDOC. I emailed the colleges that require student tax returns. Some of them sent them their version, but a few colleges told me to look for it on IDOC, but I don’t see it.
happymomof1, it is indeed self-employment tax, $1702, but I think she has to pay $400 more to the state?. Are you suggesting that she has to pay then? She paid around 400 total last year…this new amount is due in March.
…
What?
Sorry I posted something I didn’t mean to and couldn’t delete it.
Did your mom look into the EITC, do you know?
She’s working today. I’m going to the accountant with her tomorrow. What should I say?
Also, on IDOC, I have 4 W-2 substitutes received for student and another 4 for custodial, should there be so many copies or no? And also, in the family information area, I put both my dad and my mom right?
Also…I don’t think my mom’s income qualify in this.

She can’t provide the name and phone number of the place she works at because she changes jobs frequently…
If she gets paid for services rendered, that is earned income.
Well. She can’t provide the name and phone number for the place she works…and that’s what the accountant needs to refund the amount, and plus, I’ll need to resend tax returns…and that wouldn’t work…right?
What do you mean, “refund the amount”? Do you mean report the amount?
I don’t know…I don’t want my mom to pay the taxes. My mom doesn’t want me to talk to her accountant and ask about EITC…
The earned income credit would reduce the taxes, giving you a refund, but only if she qualifies.
What do you mean “I don’t want my mom to pay taxes”?
If she is required to pay taxes…she has to pay taxes. If she earned income, she is required to report it on her taxes. If she owes self employment taxes, she has to pay them.
And why can’t she provide name and phone number of places she works…if that is even asked for on her tax forms?
Yeah, I’m not sure if she qualifies. I think she does but she said that her accountant asked for the name and number of the place she works at, then the accountant will be able to refund it…but she cannot provide that and she already filed her taxes and I turned my FAFSA and IDOC in.
@thumper1, because she changes job every few months…she would have like 5-6 places to list I think, and okay,…so she has to pay self-employment taxes no matter what then?
And I just did the calculator on IRS.gov for EITC. She doesn’t qualify because she has no earned income…it’s all other income.
Anyways…on IDOC, I have 4 W-2 substitutes received for student and another 4 for custodial, should there be so many copies or no? And in the family information area, I put both my dad and my mom right?
Also…I don’t think my mom’s income qualify in this. And finally, I can’t find the non tax-filer statement. Is there a universal one for all colleges or do I use the one I got in my email for each college? (some colleges told me to use the one on IDOC but I don’t see one)
What exactly is this accountant saying he is going to “refund”?
