I'm also expecting deferral, although it would be nice to be either outright rejected or accepted - I don't think I could make it to April.

Agreed. I want a solid "rejected" or "accepted" letter in December.

One of my friends is applying to Stanford EA (where they reject/accept for the most part) and I was saying how I wish that's what Harvard did. She disagreed, saying that getting a rejection would be horrible, and she'd rather be deferred (even if she didn't get in). I guess when it comes down to it, I sort of agree with her. Getting a rejection on Dec. 15 would be horrible.

I suppose you could think that, but ultimately I think it's important to keep things in perspective...college undergrad is only 4 years of one's entire life. If you have your heart set on a particular career, you're probably going to pursue that career eventually, regardless of what college you go to.

There's the prestige, of course, but remember that there are many more qualified students who apply to stanford/harvard/etc. than there are spots. Even if you get rejected, always remember that you could very well have been a qualified student who simply got rejected off of bad luck.

Luck, no doubt, is a huge factor in these admissions. Ivy League + other top school college admissions are incredibly fickle because it's difficult to accurately quantify qualification. I've had different friends with very similar grades/ECs/etc. apply to havard and one got in, whereas the other got deferred then rejected.

i think his point was mostly that it sucks to get rejected, as opposed to getting deferred.

Thanks justice, that is what I was trying to say. While Harvard is undoubtedly incredible, not getting in won't kill me. I'm well aware of all the other great schools out there. Still spending the time between December and April with my only decision being a rejection seems like it'd be incredibly painful. A deferral really isn't much different than a rejection (anyone know the % of deferred kids who get in?), but mentally (emotionally?) there's a huge difference.

I completely agree.

Just to add to the betting, from what I've seen, ivyleaguechamp, Justice~, staticsoliloquy05, and justforgetme are very very likely to get in.

we ought to do something to keep this emotional bonding going until THE NIGHT.

How about what neurotic thing will we do if accepted? I think I would run outside and jump in the pond just to have the freezing cold water (or the solid sheet of ice I bruise myself upon) convince me that it is real.

Anyone?

If I get in, I think I will photocopy my acceptance letter and post copies all over my school with a little note attached at the bottom that says: "Ha ha, *****ers. I got in without your help!"

Okay, so maybe not. I will probably just weep uncontrollably for a while, and then call up some friends and family.

Wow, this game sucks. Let's make a better one, shall we? How about: If you could be any icecream flavor in the world, what would you be and why?

for me, it'd be Strawberry, because I love strawberry icecream. I have no other reason.

i'm going to put my bets on chatterjoy87, modestmouse, ella05, dmVP29, and jazz05. all of them are 100% likely to get in trust me i never lost a bet in my life :D

oh, c'mon, my game's better!

mango sorbet. cuz its just so good.

a good stress reliever is Snood- best game ever! look it up on google

snood drives me crazy! i always try to play, get really into it, get frustrated, and then unistall it. its a whole cycle.

lol sounds like my cycle. lol but I bought it, so I must be addicted. lol

omg RUM RAISIN ICE CREAM is orgasm in a scoop!

i heart puzzle snood

and i'd be peppermint stick, because i'm eating it right now

(oh, and while my stats are good, my essays suck... so i dunno about that whole being accepted thing)

my essays suck too. I didn't have any great triumphant defying all odds story to write about, so i just wrote about things that I felt like...i guess that's good but i keep thinking the 'real me' isn't what they want, and i can't fake myself.

mango is the best fruit, mango shakes are divine!

in france, my favorite ice cream was the coconut ice cream, served straight from the coconut shells. then i pulled a monty python and the holy grail (my excuse to eat two) and used them to imitate horsehooves.

Not only a party in your mouth, but a party for your hyperactive noisemaking side!
