Unused Scholarship Money

I received a few scholarships during my senior year, and I also qualified for financial aid. According to Princeton's policy, the scholarships would take away from the financial aid, so the total amount of "aid" I would be getting remains the same. The Princeton SCI site says I can purchase a computer with the grant money so not all the scholarship money goes to waste, but are there other ways of spending it?

Thanks

No, the scholarships will be used first to cut workstudy, and then you can use it I think once in the four years for a new computer. It may also be possible to use it to replace some summer earnings, although they are pretty willing to cover that for you if you don't have a job that earns you enough money (think community service or working for a non-profit) and if you have a job then they'd expect the money.

i don't think workstudy is part of my financial aid package...

bump! i'm a nj resident so my grant comes from the cane fund, which doesn't require on campus or summer employment

If you don't use the money for a computer, it just takes away from your grant.

so in other words, buy the most expensive computer or the scholarship will go to waste?

Probably.

Just call the aid office and they can answer your questions for sure.

the limit on the computer is $2,500 though, you can't use all of the lost grant money.
