Unversity of Rochester or Colgate university

@momcinco Thank you for your comments, but I am confused by what you wrote about limit me in term of summer job and unpaid internship??

@Smartisan5 If you feel more comfortable at Rochester, I would go there. Although Colgate at nearly a full ride is hard to pass, it is known to be fratty and cliquey. How much of the $8k would be loans?

@Dontskipthemoose 4K will be in loans.

The school where you, personally, will thrive. We can’t tell you that.

That said, I think it is objectively true that Rochester is a) larger b) a university rather than a college c) more socioeconomically diverse d) in a more urban setting. If either of those tip the balance for you, they are significant differences.

On socioeconomic diversity, this is a worthwhile read: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/01/18/upshot/some-colleges-have-more-students-from-the-top-1-percent-than-the-bottom-60.html?_r=0. For high concentrations of wealthy kids, Colgate is top 10, while Rochester is in the 150s. That alone would point ME towards Rochester, but you may feel differently.

I mean that if you are working during the summer to be able to pay your tuition, you may have to pass up an unpaid internship that would give you great job experience. Some schools have their own paid summer internships, or a fund that allows you to get a grant for an (otherwise) unapid internship, but usually those are one-time offers.

I feel kind regretted of picking UR, because of the nearly full ride of Colgate

Based upon your indicated preferences, you seem to have made the right decision, @Smartisan5.

You made your decision.

Forget about it and move on!

Colgate is now a toothpaste again!

You’re going to Rochester. Get psyched!

I know this may sound silly now. But, I totally regretted about my decision of going to Urochester and not Colgate or Hamilton. Now, I really feel It was a dumb and wrong decision, I should pick Colgate or Hamilton at least. My family has to surffer with me now, colgate was a better choice ( nearly full ride) and a better school for me. I regretted so much !! I hate myself so much

I am suffering mentally and financially from this terrible decision! I hope I can change my decision !

Dude, you haven’t given UR a chance. Just move on, I know it hurts. I got rejected from my dream transfer university penn state university. It hurts not going to my university, but I’m going to a wonderful renowned in my program that is top in the nation. You can always try and apply as a transfer after one or two semester at UR.

Colgate doesn’t offer a business major, nor does Hamilton, and nor do many top colleges and universities for that matter. However, the preference for direct business studies – in contrast to the broader liberal arts and sciences – that you expressed here and across threads seemed to indicate that URochester would be the most suitable option among your choices. Provided that you can make UR affordable on some level, the school could still prove to be the environment you have been seeking.

@merc81 I was totally WRONG about everything ! I should just make my deposit into hamilton or Colgate. I will definitely transfer to Hamilton or Colgate. Now, I am suffering mentally from this wrong decision that will impact my future, and suffering financially from that 8K. I should think more about everything, then I will make a right choice of picking colgate or Hamilton. This is the most painful time for me, really hope I can travel back in time. BIGGEST MISTAKE IN MY LIFE. I regretted so much !!!

@merc81 Both Hamilton and Colgate is superb in economic, I want to major in economics. Then, I can just go to grad school for business. There is no words that can express my painful feelings of making this wrong decision. I should really think more on this important decision, and pick Colgate or Hamilton.

So let’s say you picked colgate, will you regret your decision because you didn’t pick Hamilton? Lol

No

@Smartisan5 : As posters, I’d say we were somewhat stuck as to how to make the best recommendations for you when your earliest expressed interest, I believe, related to engineering. That said, you really can’t blame yourself for having made a choice based on the conceptions you had at the time you made that choice. Fortunately, Rochester’s a very good school that you may really like.

@Smartisan5 Okay, step back for minute. Take a deep breath. Tell us why you changed your mind and have come to the conclusion that choosing Rochester has been the BIGGEST MISTAKE IN YOUR LIFE. Maybe some of us here might be able to help you with your buyer’s remorse. I’m pretty familiar with Rochester (admittedly mostly secondhand info through my daughter and her friends) and there are others here who know the school as well. Let us help you figure out how to address the things that are bothering you.

It is too late for everything now.
