unweighted gpa question

im seeing a lot of people posting their unweighted gpa, but how are they calculating this? are they doing the "any A is a 4.0, any B is a 3.0..." or the "A = 4.0, A- = 3.67, B = 3.33..." method? because when higher colleges state the unweighted gpa averages for acceptancees (lol ik thats not a word), they are pretty high. can i assume that they use the "Any A = 4.0" method?

usually an A- = 3.7 and most colleges use the +/- system. I don’t think UC’s use them though.
