Unweighted GPA

Hi everyone,

So at my school, an A as well as an A- counts as a 4.0 on an unweighted scale. Therefore, I currently have a GPA of 4.0, even though there were a few A- grades. I know that at many colleges, an A- is counted as a 3.7 or something similar. So when I’m applying, will they count my unweighted GPA as what my school says it is or what it would be on the college’s undergraduate grading system?

Thanks in advance!

It depends on the school if they recalculate the GPA, and most colleges won’t tell you if they do or don’t. Regardless, this is one of those things that “is what it is,” so don’t waste time worrying about it.

As noted above many colleges recalculate GPA in their own way (ex. not weighted, academic subjects only) so I would not worry about it.
