Unweighted or Weighted Rank matters?

On Collegeboard, colleges will report that approximately 90% or something of their class was in the top tenth of their high school class…

Are they referring to weighted rank or unweighted?

Whatever the HS uses. The HS determines the ranking process.

My high school uses Weighted GPA, although a lot of colleges tend to look more at your Unweighted and want to see you taking rigorous if not the most rigorous courses. Check with your school’s Guidance Counselor

My school lists both weighted and unweighted on the transcript…not sure which one matters more

Which does your school use to decide Val/Sal?

weighted, because about 40 people have 4.0s unweighted

Then that’s what will be used for class rank.

I was not aware that high schools have weighted rank, but some have weighted GPA to determine class rank

I’m pretty sure that if there is a weight system, then it’s likely that the school uses it for ranking. If that wasn’t the case, then anyone can take the easiest classes and become the val.

And yet that does happen at some schools. There are no hard and fast rules.

It will be whatever format the HS uses. I don’t think HS rank is the biggest deal. Many HS don’t even rank these days. And many colleges recalculate GPA based on their own criteria.

I think it’s unweighted GPA because on some admission books, and come discuss the Bs and Cs.
