Unweighted vs. Weighted

I've had this discussion with many people but I wanna know what CCers think, which matters more of the two GPAs?

For college admissions, unweighted GPA simply matters more because everyone applying to an ivy league has pretty much taken the most APs/Honors they can, so it is much easier to asses a GPA for admissions officers if it is standardized in unweighted form especially since GPA weighting varies so much. However, they do of course look at the transcript and see what courses/levels you’ve taken. I’d say the primary importance of weighted GPA is for class rank/percentile kinda stuff that your school determines

There really isn’t much of a difference. They’re simply two different factors that are used. Many schools, including my own, don’t give unweighted GPAs, so they really can’t be that important. Likewise, many schools don’t give weighted GPAs.

Oh and why did you post this in the Penn forum?

thanks, I agree with both of you. it’s simply just different factors.

and I accidentally posted in the penn forum because I’m new to CC and it was simply just a mistake haha forgive me
