[UofA] The International Tuition Scholarship I got is smaller than the website says I should've got

I am an international student. My SAT score is 1390. My TOEFL score is above 110. I have a perfect average grade according to my country’s educational system.

According to this: https://admissions.arizona.edu/cost-aid/international/international-tuition-award , I am eligible to receive a $18,000 scholarship per academic year. However, I suppose the Admissions Office calculated my GPA to be 3.0-3.249 because my International Tuition Scholarship is $8,000 per academic year.

Why did this happen?
Should I ask for a scholarship reevaluation?

What month did you score the 1390

And is that from one sitting or a superscore

Maybe UAz doesnt understand your school’s grading system

The operative word here is eligible. Just because you were eligible for a $18k scholarship, it does not mean that you will get one because it is not a guaranteed scholarship based on if you have A your will get B.

The bigger issue is that you do not know where you stand in comparison to the rest of the pool. Remember there are a limited number of scholarships and as far as SAT scores are concerned, you were at the bottom of your band. Each school will do their own conversion of your grades.

@mom2collegekids I got 1390 in December (before applying). It’s from one sitting. My school’s grading system is honestly not complicated at all. I’ve had perfect grades every year of high school. Should I contact the International Admissions Office to ask for a clarification?

@sybbie719 Sure, I understand that the scholarship isn’t guaranteed. However, I think some mistake has been made because they took my grades way worse than they actually are.
What did you mean by “As far as SAT scores are concerned, you were at the bottom of your band”? The average SAT score at the University of Arizona is 1170.

For the scholarship that you are applying for the SAT range is 1390 - 1440, meaning from a SAT standpoint, your scores are at the bottom of the band

Maybe your GPA does not convert to a 4.0 US equivalent and they awarded your scholarship accordingly

in addition

You may have been awarded this amount if you are not physically present in the US according to Arizona Prop 300

https://ballotpedia.org/Arizona_Public_Program_Eligibility,Proposition_300(2006)

@sybbie719 Oh okay, I understand now what you meant.
While I doubt my GPA converts to a 4.0 US equivalent too, I don’t think it converts to a 3.0-3.249 GPA either (which is how they converted it, it seems).

What country are you from

Maybe they are just giving you a token amount of money because you don’t have a physical presence in Arizona

@sybbie719
I’d rather not tell the country because of privacy reasons, but I’m from Europe.

I don’t think my not being physically present in Arizona would be the problem for an award given to Internationals.

did you ever get an answer about why your calculated gpa was lower?
