I am currently an OOS student at UofA and feel unhappy with this school – I just don’t feel right here. So I’ve decided to go ahead and apply to Universities in California, which means I will be in-state. I am currently a 3.0 student from a CC in California, but taking courses this semester (my first semester) at the UofA. I predict myself obtaining a 2.9 - 3.0 GPA this semester with a W included. This will mean that on my transcript including CC, I will have 2 F’s and 3 W’s. This is absolutely awful and devastating for me; especially since this means 2 W’s in Pre-Calculus! However two of the F’s are expunged from the GPA and hope they won’t be counted into my GPA.
I have applied to SDSU, UC Irvine, UCSC, and UCSB, and majoring in Business economics.
What are my chances of getting in? 1 of my F’s was back even before I started CC. I was in high school at the time I took my first college class. One of the W’s, unfortunately, was because a really bad teacher I had for Pre-calc, and it really got me bad. I do plan on taking one more semester though, before next Fall of course.
I can honestly say that I have learned much more in CC than at the UofA. They simply don’t teach you during class time, and I am not the only who complains of the same inconvenience. It’s as if we are paying big money to teach ourselves and not be taught by the “professors” that are paid to be here.
I assume you are taking upper-division classes at UofA. If so, you are in danger of becoming a high-unit junior or a senior by unit standing and becoming ineligible for admission to some UCs or falling into a more selective category. See http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/uc-transfer-maximum-limitation-policy-chart.pdf I suggest that you email admissions at the UCs you are considering to see what their policies are.
Keep in mind that as a 3.0 student your odds of transferring to a UC are not great. See the chart at http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/uc-transfer-application-data.pdf and keep in mind that Biz-Econ is a more competitive than average major. And check to make sure you have met all the min requirements to apply. At Irvine, for example, they say you must “Complete two semesters/two quarters of approved first-year calculus with a grade of B or better” and it sounds like you have not taken calculus yet.
Hey, thanks for your reply.
I am not yet taking upper division courses, so I guess that could be good.
I will go ahead an email them and see what they say.
I guess I’m a bit puzzled, then. You traded classes at a CCC that cost a few hundred dollars a year for community-college level classes at UofA that run $30K per year. I clicked on your name and see that you are currently a Bio major, don’t like it, don’t know what to do but feel like you’re falling behind your peers who transferred after 2 years at a CC, so now you’re going to give xfer into Biz-Econ a shot and hope things fall into place? May not be the best plan, especially if you’re running up a lot of debt in the meantime.
