UofChicago High School Summer Program

I’m a current high school junior and have the University of Chicago as one of my top choices for applying to college (thinking about applying ED next year). I’m currently in the process of applying to their Neubauer Family Adelante summer program, but my question is. If I got into this summer program does it give me a better chance of getting into UoC once I apply in the near future?

ps this is my first post on here after three years of stalking all the CC threads

UChicago does not have ED. Only EA and RD. Sorry, don’t know if going to the summer program would help or not… It’s rarely the case however that attending a. Summer program gives a huge bump in admissions. What is does do however is give you a good idea about the environment both academically and socially (if taught by UChicago faculty). Also, it’s good to get away from your comfort zone and try something different. But don’t go just to get an admissions edge. Your list may change drastically when you actually begin to apply. It could help with the essay- Why Chicago?. Our family had both experiences- my S spent 3 weeks at a summer program at CMU and it helped with the decision to apply there ED. He got in. My D on the other hand decided that UChicago was somewhere she wanted to apply literally this fall. She got on EA. And she went to another university the summer because they gave her a full scholarship to take classes. Do something you will challenge yourself with whether it’s UChicago or another endeavor. Good luck!

There is someone on another thread that attended this program and got in this year. This program may be different because it’s free and meant for diversity. There may be an advantage to that. I would definitely apply.

DenverBronco559 – Welcome to the board and best of luck to you even though I am a Pittsburgh Steeler fan! :)>-

@goingnutsmom Thanks for the input and all the info!

@kaukauna Yes!! I’ve debated for so long about making an account and finally got to it! Exploring CC has been amazing. Ahh how about a Broncos vs Steelers rematch

Hey there! I was part of last year’s program! It was an awesome experience and I’d say it definitely helped me get in! I applied EA and got in! I think about 18 of us that participated applied EA and I think about 16 of us are already in! Feel free to message me if you have any questions about Neubauer!

I plan on applying to the Adelante Neubauer program as well. Do you know what PSAT or SAT scores they’re looking for and what will help me to stand out? I don’t think my PSAT score is that great, so I’d like to know if it is even worth applying.

Oh my gosh I didn’t know there was a thread for this!!
I hardcore procrastinated and wrote my essay at 2am today…oops. I have not attended the program before–does anyone know how many people are accepted?
My ACT score is a 32…do you think that will hold me back? I got a 36 in writing though, which is the program I’m applying for…I’m so nervous
Just realized that I’m probably hijacking the original thread, so to answer OP’s original question, I have heard that attending summer programs does not give one an advantage. It’s a good way to get college credit, but I don’t believe it will make the admissions officers consider your application any longer.

Good luck to everyone applying!!!

This program doesn’t give college credit. Summer programs that cost thousands of dollars do not help you, but free ones do give you a benefit in admissions as a college would not spend money flying in applicants they don’t see as potential students at their school.
