Hi All.
I am a high school senior and applied to UofM CoE in late November RD OOS. What are my chances? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
GPA:
4.0 on Michigan’s scale.
4.3 W/4.0 UW
4.7 W senior year first semester
Test Scores:
SAT: 1320
E:610
M:710
Class Rank:
Top 5%
Etc: White male, New Jersey, very competitive public school
Thanks so much!
SAT score and Math section score right below the 25th percentile. It is a reach for you.
Your GPA is certainly great, but those test scores will drag you down… luckily, GPA is given higher priority than test scores in admission yet an SAT score below 1400, especially 1320, is really low for a competitive school like Michigan. As @billcsho said, it’s definitely a reach.
@MechEng2022 Why don’t you try to take the ACT in February and try to score a 32 or above. I call Umich admissions, and they told me that they do take the February ACT test. So It may be late now, But check if there is spots. You SAT is int so bad (its actually good) just for Michigan its a bit low because of how high the student are :). I Doubt if they will take the March SAT Test either.
It sucks how college (in reality) base applicants of having both good test scores, and GPA. They do what you call a ladder, so being strong in everything maters. I chose to be a transfer applicant, so for me things will be harder. But in your case, you have a shot.
Go Blue
They may consider Feb score only if you have previous score submitted before deadline to make your application complete. If one choose to do that, it should be indicated on the CommonApp as upcoming test planned. Anyway, it is too late for that now. ACT 32 from OOS would still be a mid to high reach anyway. The enrolled freshmen mid 50 was 31-34 suggesting the admission mid 50 for OOS would be closer to 32-35.
@billcsho
OP didn’t state that if he took the ACT or not, all he stated was the SAT. Usually there are spots open left in the testing rooms for the ACT. But, Considering he lives in new jersey, I doubt that if they will have spots open tho. I Mentioned 32 as score he would need to get in order to crack into Michigan (with no Guarantee). Yep a previous score is needed to be send in before the application deadline, but he didn’t state if he did that either. If all was followed, its guarantee that they will look at that ACT Test.
Even the standby request for Feb10 ACT was ended last Friday. Get your info straight. If it is not notified on the app, they would not wait for the Feb score for review. They expect all application materials to arrive by Feb 1 otherwise. Indeed, they have finished reviewing many of the early RD submissions already, even for those submitted in early January.
