UofSC Honors College and Top Scholars Class of 2025

Hmmm…I wonder how she should proceed? Guess she can email admissions.

Her portal says she will here about HC and TS in mid February? Maybe it depends on what programs/majors/schools you were admitted to?

Worth an email to Admissions to inquire- just find it strange that so many of you have heard already. My daughter was accepted to the International Business Program back in early December.

They do two rounds of acceptances to honors college each year-December and February. My current senior was accepted this past December. My Junior at U of SC got her decision in February of her admitted year.

UofSC sends out notifications in two batches - one in December and one in mid-February. The December group is generally thought to be kids “in the running” for Top Scholars. I don’t know exact breakdown but is definitely not that “most” hear in December. Also, depending on HC yield I know of past cases where kids were offered Capstone instead of HC initially and then were offered HC.

Is there additional scholarship money awarded with honors or capstone? My daughter is OOS received the in state tuition but we are still waiting on hearing about the honors program. We are really hoping for around $8k/year additional

While Honors College and scholarship application are a single application there’s no official link. It is more a correlation vs a dependence. I believe scholarship $ is more based on stats while HC admission is a little more holistic based.

Here’s the link to where they describe historical stat ranges for the various awards. The Top Scholars for which there is an invite is just the top three (Stamps, McNair and Horseshoe).

What did her acceptance letter indicate when she got the OOS tuition reduction? Not familiar with that letter—don’t know if they are all the same.
We are in-state and my daughter’s letter stated that she would receive a merit scholarship which will be finalized in March… So, yeah… We know nothing.

The scholarship qualified to pay the same tuition rate as South Carolina residents … the value just says at least $85,000 over the course of four years. Thrilled with that but wondering if anything else will come mid Feb-March

Yes, see the link that GetCollege19 posted an hour ago (post 105). Will know more about that merit when they send the financial aid packages.

And who knows how they will handle TS this year. I do know there is an on-line forum to “Talk with Honors College students” on Feb 4, so does that mean more HC decisions will come out before then? Again , who knows…

Since January has already passed do you think they sent out TS invitations already?

We are on the virtual financial aide presentation. They stated the final honors acceptances would be coming mid February

That was a quick session.

I don’t believe so. There was an indication earlier in the thread that it could be early February. Don’t lose hope!

yes agree!

on the one hand, it did not add any new info… but some people benefited from asking questions, like “is NC considered out of state?” (not calling anyone out… that may have been asked twice. NC people…)

Wait I didn’t hear any questions. And stop. Did someone seriously ask that.

That was in the chat… that may still be available. I know there is no such thing as dumb questions but I I hope that does not jeopardize their scholarships…

Perhaps sport teams like Carolina Panthers and Hurricanes have resulted in some people believing there is only one Carolina. LOL.

Not saying this is the case, but NC has a LOT of transplants, so questions could have been from someone relatively new to NC vs ‘NC people’

Have to admit when we visit UofSC and they refer to it as Carolina I struggle, and seeing it on a garnet instead of Carolina blue shirt is weird. Also, don’t get me started on SC’s bizarre ideas about bbq sauce :grinning:.

True true.

And there are at least 4 Carolinas… Blue (North), Red/Garnet (South), and two Purple (Western and East). Of course, there are others.
