Out of curiosity, are any of the Class of 2022 “top scholars” at University of South Carolina going to be international business or finance majors?
My DD (McNair Scholar) will be an international business major, she hasn’t decided between finance and economics as her second major.
@94maddie I am a current junior, and I am hoping to be a top scholar next year. May you please post your daughter’s stats?
@alexrider My DD was a similar mindset, goal was to be a top scholar the minute she set foot on campus. Best of luck, it’s an amazing program. Let me know if you want additional information.
SAT 1540
ACT 34
Class Rank 5 out of 444 (IB diploma program)
23 Weighted Classes (14 IB and 9 AP, roughly half of the AP classes taken online)
Also took two college classes at Ole Miss as part of their Summer Program for HS Students
EC’s included Theatre, Model UN, NHS, Latin, 4H, HOBY, Girl’s State, CAR - most of which she held leadership positions as part of.
Work experience: US Soccer State Certified Referee, working most weekends while in season
My takeaway from Top Scholars weekend, it’s very holistic. They want a good blend of academics, leadership and community service. The essays are super important, it’s about setting yourself apart from the rest.
@94maddie If your D is interested in finance, she should look into the Finance Scholars Program. It is a competitive program that admits approximately 20 rising juniors each year. My S was a McNair Scholar and was also in the Finance Scholars Program and graduated last year with a triple major: International Business, Finance and GSCOM. He is currently working as an investment banking analyst.
