<p>i want to apply to a canadian university along with a whole list of american colleges...so i want it to be a safety school...i would require financial aid of course (as much as possible) and so was wondering which colleges in canada should I look into? since i want to study engineering, UW seems like a good choice. UofT and UBC are both big research universities whereas UW has a stronger undergraduate program...considering all this, and my need for financial assistance, which school do you think is best for me to apply to? i have given SATs (I:2010, II: 2160) although thats not required in canada and my TOEFL CBT score is 287...any suggestions? should I consider schools like simon fraser university or mcmaster?</p>
<p>Financial aid is very diificult to get in canadian universities (in fact, in every university i checked during my search there was no financial aid for internationals). You'd have to rely on scholarships but they also tend to be small and pretty rare. </p>
<p>So if you can afford to pay your way through (usually somewhere between US$20,000-30,000 per annum) then Canadian universities aren't a bad option at all, and you might be able to reduce the amount you pay through scholarships and/or part-time work. If you can contribute very little, though, Canadian universities aren't really a great option.</p>
<p>Just like you I was also planning to include a Canadian univ and an Australian uni on my list for variety but couldn't find any that would be financially viable. (Btw Australian unis cost less than Canadian ones but have practically no scholarships for intnls.) Do keep on looking through college websites, though, and let me know if you find something!</p>

<p>Canadian Universities are relatively cheap usually around 15k a yr for internationals and that includes meals and housing. Canadian universities are typically do not give financial aid except in extreme cases. Also U of T is horrible if you're trying to get any money, and if you decide to go there be prepared for some pretty big class sizes.</p>
<p>Although Canadian universities don't give aid to international, it's still less expensive than Amerian universities (private) WITH aid.</p>

<p>well..yep ive checked out mcgill and queen's...im actually hoping to find a good college in BC (have family there..so no living expenses)...pretty much the max amt of aid (merit scholarships..) I can get at most canadian univs is 5k..thas smthing to worry abt...</p>
