Up-And-Coming Schools

Ohio State
you’d be suprised

why the heck, then, is Dartmouth still there? it may be obscure, but it’s well regarded in academia.

Isn’t Dartmouth an ivy league school? How then could it be up and coming?

Fordham, NYU, Middlebury, most certainly.

I agree on NYU. It is DEFINITELY Up-and-coming, and doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. Their Endowment has grown pretty tremendously and their name gets better and better every year.

Wow, really? Schools like Middlebury and NYU don’t belong on this list. I dont know why that’s such a difficult concept to grasp…

dion, NYU is not yet put on the “elite” levels of schools like duke, Northwestern, JHU, georgetown, etc, but at the moment, it is “up-and-coming” and will probably be at that level in a few years time.

I imagine “up-and-coming” as getting to a level of widespread “elite” recognition.

USC and Occidental

New College of Florida.

It has been in existence only since 1960 and an independent state university only since 2001. It has produced 26 Fulbright scholars since 2003 (with less than 800 students).

Its undergraduate teaching focus, its 10:1 student to faculty ratio, its surprisingly affordable cost, its attraction to highly motivated and academically talented students, as well as its nice campus on Sarasota Bay, will continue to drive its ratings upward, especially for those students seeking a challenging intellectual environment at a reasonable cost.

NCF will become increasingly difficult to get into as it becomes better known in Florida and across the country.

This thread is run by people every year. Its as old as rain. Its silly and pointless. Except it serves to be a popularity contest for those fixated on such topics. Not to mention it already includes schools which are highly visible and highly ranked in USNWR. Someone needs to get a life, in my humble opinion.

^^ Interesting comment endlessrecession.

Georgia College and State University, University of Tampa, Coastal Carolina, and The College of New Jersey “are highly visible and highly ranked in USNWR.”

Quinnipiac University?

endlessrecession: for those of us with stats that are “not in the CC stratosphere” or kids with such, this is an extremely useful thread…if you don’t think so, don’t visit…but please don’t scare others away from posting…

I think that as George Mason continues to transition from a commuter school to a residential school, it will gain a lot of interest. This is especially because of its location (right outside DC but with two metro stops). I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few years, it’s added to the list of well-known DC schools. But even then, I think it will be a DC safety for a couple of years.
