Hello,
I am about to be visiting UND in about a week or so. I am interested in business, but am not 100% sure on a major in general or anything specific like that. Does anyone have a recommendation on what the best/need to see things are at UND that they wouldn’t tell you or mention on the tour? Any specific advice?
Thanks in advance!

We took the tour this past summer and it was great. We tried to get some sort of tour of Mendoza and was able to schedule anything. We also were not able to get into a dorm, which was odd but we were there before the fall semester started. The one thing that I wish we had done was explore South Bend a bit, as it wasn’t clear what the city has to offer once off campus. The tour iitself was great.
At ND (and other schools too) if you have the time, eat lunch in the cafeteria. If you sit at a table populated with other students, they’ll probably engage you in conversation. We found that a lot of the most valuable info we gleaned on campus visits cam from our lunch conversations.
At ND, one of the kids at our table offered to show my kid their dorm (since a dorm visit wasn’t included in the regular tour).
Also (again if you have time) see if there is a hoops or hockey or other game happening on the day you visit. Another good chance to see the ND students in their natural habitat.
You can also spend some time at LaFortune, the current student center - you will get a feel of campus life. Also, the campus is very large and there is a lot of walking - so wear comfortable shoes. Ask students directions, too, they will probably take the time to talk to you some about their experiences. If its a weekday, you can go into Mendoza or any of the classroom buildings. To get into a dorm, you have to be accompanied by a student, so if you know someone on campus, you might be able to get in.
Hello, I’m a current ND freshman who’s going to enroll in Mendoza. I’d be more than happy to show you around the dorms and allow you to glean some information that you wouldn’t get on the tour. Pm me if interested.
My understanding as to why a dorm isn’t included on the tours is because they vary so greatly. Each has it’s own charm, it’s own pluses and minuses. It would be hard to make an evaluation, because whatever you see will not be representative of the whole.
Across the street is the Eddy Street Commons which is not included on the tour, but you should be aware that there is a place slightly off campus to get something to eat or shop.
Downtown South Bend seems to be going through a renaissance of sorts. We went to eat at a cafe not too long ago, and I was surprised at how development seems to be coming along–not sure of the street names, but the Chicory Cafe was on the corner of this very neat block (which by the way is a great place for coffee and food).
Good luck–and dress warm!!!
