Upcoming Events for Students & Parents of New Students

First, Congratulations and welcome to UCLA! This is such an exciting time for all of you!

There's a number of events coming up this Spring and this Fall for incoming students, and for their parents as well. If any current students, parents of current students, or alumni read this, please add to this list of upcoming events. Most of my information comes from my membership and lengthy participation in the UCLA Alumni Association.

For Parents & Students:

Don't forget to come to admissions day with your student, if you can make it. Also, everyone is invited to the UCLA Festival of Books on April 24th and 25th. It's a great time to walk around campus.

In the fall, we host parents' weekend, where we welcome the parents of first & second year students, as well as transfers -- good food, music, good vibes! There's also a bunch of free UCLA take home stuff too.

Try to make it to at least one football game. For those who are not sports fanatics (and except for the fact that I was at UCLA when John Wooden was there), I never had time to go to a football game while in college, and I kind of regret that now. You might actually enjoy yourself!

Students Only:

Also, for students aching for a homecooked meal, we have our Dinners for 12 Strangers in February and early March where we host, in our homes, dinners for 12 lucky students that always involves scoring one or two professors, for a good time. While I personally feel the ones I host with half the alumni who live on my street are the absolute BEST, other hosts have the same opinion about theirs, and I haven't met one student who hasn't really had a great time!

Spirit Squad:

Okay, this is expensive, but thought I'd mention it, since it is to support the Blue & Gold: There is a Spirit Squad Fans' Reception next Sunday, April 11th, but the $$ does help with the operational expenses, and you do get to hear Coach Rick Neuheisel ’85 and Assistant Coach Norm Chow discuss the upcoming year, hear from Chancellor Gene Block, meet coaches and players from football and men’s basketball, etc.

“UCLA Admissions Day”

More info on this please? When is it? How do I sign up? What is the deadline?

You’re probably already registered for it. It’s also known as “College Day” or “Campus Day”, and it’s UCLA’s open house for admitted, but not registered students and parents.

April 5-16, 2010
Commencing 8:15 a.m.

College Days is the multi-day event for admitted, but not yet enrolled, students and their parents. Each day up to 400 prospective students and families come to UCLA to participate in a campus-wide open house and orientation. Alumni volunteer as Alumni Ambassadors, to welcome potential future Bruins on their visit to campus, as they decide if UCLA is the right university for them.

July 8th starts the orientation period for both newly registered students and family. See link below:
