Hey guys I’m back after about almost 1 month and just letting y’all know I’ve requested the classes I want for freshman year, met with my counselor, and now all I have to do is finish the school year. On my first semester I scored a 3.67 gpa but by the end of this one, it’s gonna become a 3.83, do y’all think that’s good for an 8th grader taking 3 highschool credit classes?
Also, I’m worried that when I go into freshman year of highschool after summer, I’ll be lost in planning how to study because right now I only study every once in a while for quizzes or tests, did this happen to you? When did you really start studying serious? How much is considered good for studying daily? Study everyday? Overall I just wanna hear your thoughts on study routines during freshman year.
Thanks
I never did this in high school. Now, in college, I start studying earlier and study schedules may overlap, but I’m still not studying every subject every day.
The periodic studying you described is what I did in middle school and freshman year. I don’t think I study “seriously”, but I try to skim notes for APs and honors daily.
OP, you need to figure out what schedule works for you. Everyone has their own academic choices and EC choices – no one else’s schedule will be an exact fit for you. Basic suggestions would be:
- Get some kind of planner (paper or use something online). Track all of your assignments and other obligations (ECs, etc) in it.
- Use it to plan time to get all assignments done, leave study time for tests, and to start projects well ahead of the due dates. You don’t need to do every subject every day, but don’t just wait until right before a test to start to study.
- Some students find trying to work a day ahead in their classes gives them an edge – they better understand the basics in class and can concentrate on the areas where they are having trouble.
- If you have a lot of hard classes and a busy EC schedule after school, try to get a study hall in your day.
- Whenever possible, do any extra credit assignments that are offered. Helps shore up your grades if you have a misstep or get sick or something.
