I want to provide everyone with an update regarding our decision letter mailings. The first batch of decision letters - approximately 1,170 in total - will likely be sent tomorrow, February 22nd. These decision letters are being sent to students that have applied for special programs and some students that live a signficant distance from Rochester. I should note, however, that not all special program applicants or students applying from far away are guaranteed to be included in this batch.

While I understand the anxiety that students are experiencing while waiting for decision letters, I cannot stress enough that a student should NOT be discouraged if he/she does not receive a letter during this first mailing. 1,170 students is fewer than 10% of our 13,588 applicants, of which we usually admit 35-40%. Many more letters will follow these, but it is likely to be a few more weeks before any additional letters are sent. Thank you for continuing to be patient!

If you have questions, please feel free to send them my way. Good luck to everyone.

Out of curiousity, when you say that some students from a signigficant distance away will receive letters, do you mean international students? Or would any students from the west coast be included in that bunch?

I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for all your helpful responses, which I’m sure is quite stress-relieving for both parents and students. So again, a big thank you to you, Mike.

JNLx10… That will include international students as well as a few students from the West Coast.

StanfordAspire… Thank you so much. I’ll admit that I reluctantly joined College Confidential and was skeptical of it’s value at first, but it has quickly become one of the most gratifying aspects of my job. I know how stressful the college application process can be, and I think the lack of communication and transparency is a large reason for that. I hope that I am able improve the lines of communication and clear up some of the confusion!

It should not update for a few days still. I believe we have planned to allow time for the students to recieve their letters before updating their MyRoc status. We wouldn’t want to lose the excitement of opening the letter!

To int’l applicants, are the mails sent snail, express or Fedex? Basically, in how many days should we expect the mail? Also, Canada IS treated overseas (int’l), right?

Special programs do not guarantee scholarships, but for any student receiving a scholarship, that information should arrive via postal services approximately one week after your admit letter arrives.

Canada is treated as international, though Canadian students (and Mexican) are eligible for need-based financial aid, whereas all other international students are not.

So to be clear: these decision letters are not regarding scholarship offers, correct? This is only for international applicants and special programs like GEAR.

Scholarship offers will be delivered approximately one week after decision letters are mailed. If a student is not the recipient of a merit based scholarship, a letter will not be sent.

Some students in the US that have not applied to Combined Admissions Programs and/or are not finalists for the Renaissance Scholarship will hear from us in the next few days, but very few.

I was informed (with great appreciation) that my RD letter should be arriving either tomorrow or Friday. I will let the thread know when I receive it!
