"Research is thriving on campus: the UW remains the sixth biggest research entity in the country and ranks sixth in patents among worldwide universities. Student demand is higher than ever: undergraduate applications to UW–Madison increased by more than 20 percent this year.
Out-of-state applications are up nearly 30 percent, and Chancellor Blank recently announced that the UW will add 250 spots for out-of-state freshmen next fall — while maintaining its commitment to enroll a minimum of 3,600 resident undergraduates per year.
