Just wondering, when is the best time to send an update letter in order to make sure it arrives before they start looking at applications? I have a few things to notify them of that have happened since being deferred (most notably Intel finalist), but have no school until Monday and would rather like to have my counselor's approval before sending the letter...

guitar man...it doesnt matter anymore...

I would bet my life savings that you get in RD now.

when i was deferred (although not from harvard) i sent a letter in mid february and was then accepted RD. i doubt you really need your counselor's approval though.

oh man guitar man...964 each now.

woot.

Actually, you're at 965 at present. And now we're tied ;)

Met Carmi today. Very interesting kid. I like him. lol.

haha. one up.

anywho? howd you come to schreiber? or was there some newsday thing or something?

any yea...to reiterate...dont worry about Harvard.

Newsday. They took pics of 7 of the 8 of us from LI (one didn't show up).

And thanks for the confidence ;) But it can go either way, so...well, we'll see in March, no need to worry about it now. The focus now is how to let them know about this in the first place ;)

Congrats! Nice job.

no dude it wont. i guarantee it man. if you have good sats, solid ECs, this will def put you over the top

Yeah, you silly person you.

I'll see you at freshman orientation, G-Man. ;)

so whatd you think of the carmster? were you instantly infatuated with his rugged, timberman looks?

haha.

Guitar, you better get in.

I'll just say that it would be a travesty for me to get in ahead of you.

I mean, your stats are simply too good.

Guitar, isn't the first round of Intel up? How did you do?

its kind of too late. Admissions ppl are already taking out files u know.
for ex: international admissions are already in evaluation. Deferred+RD all together for some weird reason this year

especially if u're international.

deadline is deadline at harvard.

Um, I highly doubt that they don't look at anything from after the submission deadline, when it's an update on something that's happened since.

Stam--I made semi-finalist a couple of weeks ago and then finalist this week :)

vivo: how do you know this?

the adcom is currently reading people who have applied RD. deferred candidates and RD are always considered together. however, deferred candidates are obviously read later than the RD candidates since harvard invites deferred candidates to submit additional information whenever they can.

GuitarmanARS:

You don't need your counselor's okay to send additional materials. You still have time. I think they will not begin reviewing applications until late Feb/early March.

Er actually, you can talk about any changes right up until near the deadline, vivo. My admissions officer actually encouraged me to talk about any changes that had occured since I sent in my app about a week before the deadline. (Nothing had changed so I didn't do anything.) I would suggest sooner than later though, while you know you're still in competition and might need that little boost.

Guitarman; Send in the updates immediately. I know a student who used to work at the admissions office, and she said earlier is definitely better---they pull the file, and may not pull it a second time. Oh, and major congratulations! This is a fabulous accomplishment--you want Harvard to know about it right away!
p.s. My son never even discussed his updates with his GC.

donemom, one regional rep told me that they consider all updates that come in before they mail the decision letters.
