marite,

how is it possible that they can read all applications in one month?!

Yeah, that makes sense. I mean, it's not my fault that I found out about Intel after submitting my app, and I'm sure it's something they would like to know about.

I suspect that there is a system whereby some members of the committee weed out the weaker apps then the whole committee reads the apps that have survived that first round. I think there is a good description of the process for Wesleyan in The Gatekeepers.

I believe Duke has a similar process and wouldn't be surprised at all if H does it too.

The Harvard system is definitely NOT like horrific Wesleyan system described in "The Gatekeepers" - which has, I understand, been overhauled.

Hmmm, how so? Any insights from you are of course well-appreciated ;)

Every decision is a decision by the whole committee.

How can I know my regional rep? I couldnt find anything on Harvard's site

Just send it in. The material will end up in the hands of the correct person.

I called them to find out my rep but yeah, just send it in.

Admissions Confidential-gives a detailed insight into Duke's admissions process.

As does howstuffworks.com :p Although the two articles may be one and the same.

Ahhh, OK then, I've got an update letter written up but don't want to sound like a complete idiot so would anyone here mind reading it over and checking to see if it's OK, please? :)

it doesnt matter

I'll be happy to read it--pm me.

i'll take a look at it too; PM me

ill take a look @ it for you - pm me

guitar, pm me. i don't really know what an update letter should look like either. so very curious! i need to write mine too.

hideANDseek, check your pms in a few minutes ;) A question for the others...should it be addressed to Mr. Fitzsimmons (as I'd thought it should be) or the committee as a whole (as I've heard from some)?

I would do Mr. Fitzsimmons...I just think it's much more personal that way...and it shows that you took the effort (no matter how minimal it is) to learn who the "big guy" is.
