Update on 2021 AP Exam Administration

Highlights

The 2021 exam schedule provides 3 testing dates (Administrations 1, 2, and 3) for each subject between early May and mid-June. Paper or digital exams are offered, depending on the subject and exam date.

Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, and Statistics are offered solely as paper and pencil exams in both Administration 1 and 2

French, German, Italian, and Spanish Language and Culture; Latin; Music Theory; and Spanish Literature and Culture won’t have any digital versions of the exam.

Chinese Language and Japanese Language exams are also only able to be administered in schools, for the same reason that applies to the other world language exams.

Digital exams will be taken on computers (Mac, Windows, school-managed Chromebooks), and may not be taken on smartphones. Each student will need their own computer to complete the readiness steps and take their exam.

Schools may administer digital exams in school or authorize students to take digital exams at home if in-school testing isn’t possible.

All digital exams will have various security features in effect, whether taken in school or at home. For example, students taking digital exams won’t be able to return to answered questions or move back and forth among unanswered questions.

Glad to see it’s reverting to traditional formats, mostly.

It will be interesting to see if there are score differences between students taking the test in early May and those taking it a month later.

If I was a school administrator, wouldn’t I prefer offering later test (unless it means choosing electronic over paper, or is after the end of the school year)?

Our school is considering .

Knowing this, I am considering canceling the AP exams for my S21. By then we would have already committed to a college and chances are those credits would not count anyways because of the colleges he has chosen. Thoughts?

Wouldn’t he already have committed by the first AP administration dates? Commitment dates are usually May 1.

@RichInPitt True…but, the exam dates will be 2-3 weeks after graduation week. In a year with very little instruction it seems unlikely that he will perform well and it is all starting to feel pointless.
