Just to let parents of current Swat students know that if your kids are waiting to hear from Housing about room change requests, they have gone to the waiting list for changes. My S, a rising junior, got an email today from the college offering him a single in a more "favorable" dorm. He is a happy camper! So, that means that the single he picked at room draw has obviously now opened up. Good luck to all your students who are trying to make switches.

Daughter got an e-mail today with six options for rising sophmore housing, all of which were very attractive, some of which were more attractive than she could have gotten with the highest sophmore lotto number.

Waitlist definitely worked out.

Great news for her! My S only received one option, but he had specifically requested singles in only two dorms, I believe.

Ah...my son would love singles. But he already has an attractive option in the lodge. Hope it works out with living with a girl in the same room, though (just my thoughts, not his).

My daughter was at the top of the wait list, and ended up in Wharton - so no complains here... Seems like the wait list certainly proved to be "the place to be" for the rising sophomores.

I just want to know when us 09-ers will get our housing!

Wow, nngmm, did your rising soph D get a single in Wharton, or is she part of a double? My rising junior S got switched from a single in Willets to a single in Wharton so he is quite pleased. (He lived in Willets freshman year and ML basement last year!) I think he sent in quite a plea for a change when he filled out his form.

I would guess 09ers will probably hear housing assignments any day now. Those assignments had to be pretty nearly done before they dove into the sophmore wait list.

I can't believe how good some of the options are for D, deep on the sophmore wait list. Her worst option is the room she planned to pick if she had gotten a good lottery number. There are some options that are arguably even better, with emphasis on "arguably" when D and Dad talked about the options!

Sounds like nnggmm's D had the same experience. She could never have gotten a room in Wharton in the sophmore lottery.

Myrt Westphal (and her protegee) really took care of the students who were patiently in limbo for the last three months. It is really easy to see why students, parents, and faculty have so much trust in the folk who run this school.

momof3sons, she got a double, but it's still hard to believe that Wharton was even an option... A double in Willets was another option, and she agonized quite a bit about it, since probably none of her sophomore friends will be in Wharton, and many might end up in Willets. But I think she is happy with the choice she made. Her worst fear was to end up in ML basement ;)...

College_hopeful, last year the the housing info came in the first week of August.

Tell me about it. My D and her roommate are agonizing over a choice of doubles in Willets (where all her friends are) or a matched pair of nearly adjacent singles in less central dorms. I think she'd be nuts to not take the singles. That would be a pretty good haul for her worst lottery cohort.

But, I don't get a vote.

Sophmores never get in Wharton in the lotto.

nngmm,
Your D's fears of ending up in ML basement were well founded. Speaking as a parent...shudder...I couldn't stand that place. Anyway, my S isn't totally ecstatic about the single in Wharton, only because it's in a section where he knows that it will be basically all seniors and he will be a junior. On balance, though, he much preferred the Wharton location to Willets. Much closer to the places he will spend most of his time. Your D needn't worry about not having many of her friends in Wharton. Her friends will probably all come to visit her in her Wharton double and will be green with envy!

college_hopefull, word on the streets is that housing info arrives today or tomorrow. good luck

Specifically, word on the street is that housing was mailed on Wednesday. Do the math... 3 business days...

interesteddad, if she chooses Willets, she will be with me! I'm on the first floor :).

tkdgal,
Willets used to have the reputation as a "wild dorm." (That's "wild" by Swat standards!) With my S's class ('07) they tried to tone down that image by carefully selecting students based on their questionnaires. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great place for a freshman to be, especially because it has the highest percentage of freshmen on campus, thus affording you a nice opportunity to meet many of your fellow classmates. And they also still have a wiffle ball league which plays it's games in the hall at night, with a midnight curfew, I believe! Good luck and enjoy it!

I've heard the Willets basement rooms are really yucky....that's why you don't want to be relegated to those as a sophomore. Then, a few years back, the sprinklers did not work but that was rectified recently. It's sort-of hidden from everything, you have to make an effort to know where Willets is....although it is right there in the middle and getting to classes is easy from there.

I already got a response from a sophomore on the '09 board who said that Willets 1 was going to be a "wild floor."

Is Willets L0 the basement?

searchingavalon, don't know the answer to your question but now I regret writing that....this is just grapevine gossip and I can't really verify for you that the Willets basement is yucky. :(
