Updated Bubble Chart from PSU Admissions

“The scale used is based on a 4.0 grading system that takes into consideration weighted grades.”
I’d say 3.5 (which is on a 4.0 grading scale).
What scale is your 4.8 based on?

Does Penn State use the ACT in much the same way that they use the SAT? Is the test valued as much?

i’m actually not sure what it is out of. i was just confused because it says “takes into consideration weighted grades”

those people posting for “chances” should consult this thread. If you have an ACT instead of an SAT you can find charts on the internet by googling “SAT ACT Concordance”

accident… sorry

BUMP - just to bring this up to the first page for all the “chance” folks to see

apllied early oct 3.4 gpa…710 math 6oo reading 610 writing so 1310 or 1920 sat ap classes as well as honor strong in math and science weak in writing and lit…check summer also applieid undecided any thoughts

Yes…this is not a chance thread. Out of courtesy to the OP you might want to start your own thread instead of hijacking his/hers.

bump…“chancers” check your stats on this chart

my OOS public school’s naviance chart shows that no one has been rejected with above a weighted 3.3 OR above a 1900 SAT. A 3.3 w/ 1900 would put you no where near UP outright acceptance on the bubble chart.

we’ve been discussing naviance data on another thread–it could be less predictive now that PSU has become increasing selective over the past 2-3 years bec naviance covers a longer period…but also…just bec you fall in the yellow doesn’t mean you wont get into UP it probably depends upon how many applications they receive in the blue zone. If they can’t fill up the class from the blue bubbles they will look at the yellows- I suspect you may be waiting a while to find out if you are in the yellow

Does Naviance distinguish between acceptance into UP vs the branch campuses, or does it just indicate acceptance to PSU? If there is no distinction as to the campus, that might explain the difference between the bubble chart and Naviance data.

Naviance definitely distinguishes between the various campuses.

RMSkol, hi! I tried to PM you a reply to your message to me but for some reason it isn’t working. To answer your question, my son still has not heard from Penn State. With his stats though, I told him, “no news is good news” as a few friends of his heard back last week and all were accepted at branch campuses. Has your daughter heard anything?

motherto5- wondering oif you might know how the stats of your son’s friends who were offered branch campuses compare to the bubble chart? were they in the yellow?

rocknroll, unfortunately, I don’t know the exact stats. If I was to guess I would say they are very low yellow dots possibly high black dots. None of the kids so far accepted to branch campuses seemed surprised just disappointed, I will say that.

Whenever my son comes home and says, “so and so got accepted to UP” or “so and so got accepted to Altoona” I always ask him “so what was their gpa, what were their SATs, what major did they apply to?” and he looks at me like I am the obsessive mother that I am lol. He says to me, “Mom, I didn’t ask him/her”

Honestly, at this point I think I care much more than he does. I am the typical helicopter Mom, I guess.

Kindred Moms-I think no news is good news if your kids not a “shoo in” they’re denying kids and giving them second choice campuses, and last year’s acceptance thread had a lot of kids with lower stats accepted to UP, albeit, way later in the game. If you’re child has had that “application under review” status for months like mine, I’m thinking they didn’t toss him out, but he’s no where near in.

bumping this up!

motherto5 - Your PM did work and I sent you a PM back. Good to hear from you.

DS is a recruited athlete with a 3.55 Weighted GPA and 1600 combined SAT. Coach will move him to UP if sent to branch. Does it matter if he didn’t list a branch campus on application?
