Recommendations:
-1 from my Calculus Teacher (She's had me for Sophomore and Junior Year, knows me quite well)
-1 from my Physics/Robotics teacher who is also my Robotics independent study mentor AND my US FIRST ROBOTICS team coach (Definitely a good rec. He's gotten one of my friends into Dartmouth and another into Columbia(the kid who got into Dartmouth has my GPA but 1410 SAT M+CR).
-1 from my Spanish Literature Teacher (I have a multitude of personal conversations with her over the years, knows me as a student and as a person very well)

Interviews:
-Columbia: Got an interview and it went splendidly. Great, interesting conversation. It went so smoothly. Has to be my best interview! I would give it a 10/10!
-M.I.T.: Interviewer was a little intimidating but I held my own, asked interesting questions and had a response to all of his. I'd give it an 8.5/10.
-Cornell: Meh interview. Guy was boring, had a slight pause somewhere in their. I'd give it a 7.5/10

Essays:
-Working intently on them (since September)! Multiple readers will be reviewing them as well! So far reactions have been nothing but great!

-Cornell (Applying for the HEOP/NOP program)
-Macaulay Honors College (the campus I am picking is City College, the only one that provides engineering)
-Polytechnic Institute of NYU = Accepted Rolling Admission
-Manhattan College = Accepted Rolling Admission
-CUNY City College = = Accepted Rolling Admission

Columbia/cornell/MIT are reaches
idk about cooper or macaulay sorry

thanks for the chance

match to all except MIT, columbia, and Cornell

I would say you have quite a lot working for you. You seem to have pulled impressive stats from some obstacles. I agree that Ivies and MIT are reaches for everyone, but I think you have a good shot everywhere.

I’d say Columbia, Cooper Union and MIT are all reaches. Cornell I’d say is a high match/low reach. This is mainly because of your grades and SATs–your ECs are very strong.

I say the two highest reaches are cornell mit and columbia u have pretty good chances for the rest.

I think your ECs are really strong because they show a sincere commitment to computer science related activities, which matches well with your interest in engineering. Given your background, I think your academics are good too. You have a good chance at most of them. MIT is difficult for everyone but I think Cornell might be a match.

All good except GPA and SAT.

First, I’d like to congratulate you on the vast improvement you displayed on your SATs. Your scores do seem rather low in terms of such top schools as MIT and the Ivy League institutions but one could certainly make great ground on their test scores with such things as interview abilities, essays, and extracurriculars, all of which you seem to have. Those top universities are essentially reaches for all students, but with a resume such as yours and the excellent academic career you have had with a difficult scenario, you certainly have the potential to gain acceptance into a top institution.

You have a good hook (first gen/minority) but your GPA and SAT seem low regardless. Likewise, a few things should be noted:

  1. The National Society for High School Scholars is largely considered a scam (by my school guidance department and nearby High Schools as well, in MA at least). They take a large portion of members, charge them, and offer a very small scholarship, and it isn’t particularly competitive.
2)You can’t really know how interviews went. You can get a vibe, but unless you are the interviewer, it’s very hard to tell.

Besides that, you do look quite good. MIT is a very high reach and Columbia seems like a reach, with Cornell being a low reach as a whole. You seem more than qualified for the rest – your courseload is very good, kind of contradictory to your GPA/SAT scores(did you ever try the ACT?). Your EC’s are quite good as well, and you have come back from a difficult familial situation and disease, both boosting your academic resume (however horrible saying that may be). Good luck =]

Chance back if you could?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/933115-chance-me-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

You, young man, are going to be accepted by all those schools except the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Columbia University.
P.S. Why would a person like thou take such a class as weight management? Are you insecure about your weight? I am fat myself, but I totally ignore it and it seems to work. People like me for who I am, even though I am pretty heavy.
Good Luck in all of life’s marvelous endeavors!!!

^ Are you okay?

Columbia and MIT are probably reaches, but all others are matches.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/944443-cliche-chance-me-i-will-chance-you-back.html</a></p>

MIT, Columbia, and Cornell probably aren’t going to happen. I don’t mean to berate you or anything, but they’re really high reaches. I think people here are being a bit too generous.

Cooper is talent-based, I believe, so we can’t chance you for that, either. Good luck, though! A few kids every year from my school always get into Cooper.

This applicant is from the previous admissions cycle.

Thank you. I feel pretty silly having brushed right by the original post date.
